#10Base2
I see your Firewire and raise you AppleTalk, 10Base2, Token Ring (shudder) and somewhere there's an EtherPrint adapter for AppleTalk over Ethernet. (For bonus horrors: the AAUI adapters for 10BaseT, 10Base2 and 10Base5.)

There are worse horrors if this moose digs down a level... 3:O(>

They: How long have you been working with networked computers?

10base2 BNC or GTFO

Hang on, I knew that hanging onto those 10Base2 terminators would come in handy some day... No, that's the box with the S-Video cables...

Wow, never been to a LAN party where people were crimping their own 10base2 cables.

Now, RJ45 connectors on 100baseT? Oh yeah, I was once told to stop helping with setup because so many of my crimps would fail testing.

Very much a Pink Floyd "WRONG!, Do it again!" vibe.

10Base2 Ethernet was around in 1987, but very rare as SCSI expansions to the SE :) Serial dial-up was the norm.

They're talking about an adaptor to run ethernet over coax, which I presume is TV cable. That's 10base2 and we had that in the 90s.
And last time I looked coax was cable and not a network protocol.

Looks like something for 10base2.

With 10Base2 networking of course

I guess what I'm trying to say is the experience someone has is only valuable if it's still applicable?

Like I know how to wire an entire network in 10base2 but it's practically useless since we don't build networks like that anymore.

looks like a coaxial cable with bnc connectors at both ends, it is used in 10BASE2 networks and for connecting video and radio frequency equipment

10base2?

Was a big improvement over 10base5 and those damn vampire taps in the ceiling.

Eines der größten Upgrades in meiner letzten Firma war der Wechsel von 10Base2 auf 10BaseT - ich habe ca 50 Coax auf RJ45 Wandler entsorgt.... *heult leise*

You know there's a lot missing.
Serial SCSI, XFP/SFP(+/28), 68pin UW-SCSI, Sun Keyboard/Mouse, 3w13 (Sun Monitor), BNC (10BASE2/Composite Video) Mini-/Micro-HDMI..

About 30 years ago we network cabled our office with 10Base2 and terminators. When we were done, I put a writable share on everyone's PC called "Dropbox". "I've sent it to your Dropbox" became a common cry around the office.

If only I'd patented... something or other.

Ich entrümple gerade meinen „Netzwerk-Notfallkoffer“. Das hier kann ich wegwerfen, oder? #10Base2

Ran into this old post on Reddit. One of my absolute favorite childhood gaming memories was playing multiplayer Doom in the basement on our 10BASE2 LAN. Watching the look on the faces of kids that had only played Nintendo and Sega was priceless.

Memories of wiring a 3 floor new office for 10base2 before we moved in. And Econet, of course.

(I have the traditional BOFH etherkiller (in both 10Base2 and RJ45, with options of 240V single or 415V 3-phase AC) kicking around somewhere.) 3:O)>

The "plug-to-plug" (male both ends) in 110V USA or (shudder) 240V UK (BS1363) cable is the traditional horror/accident waiting to happen.

Nykyään coaxiaaliverkoissa voi liikennöidä Gbps nopeuksilla eli jo kauan sitten kuopattu 10base2 is bäck. Ympäri mennään - yhteen tullaan! Älä siis ikinä pura mitään! 🤓

Cisco 1900 Series 10base-t Ethernet Switch just arrived in the mail!

And I got it working over 10base2 as well ;)
February 19, 2025 at 2:37 AM
10base2 was a 1985 spec replacing the "old" Ethernet ( : And twisted-pair 10baseT was late-80s though idk who had it til the early 90s

These 10BASE2 equipped hubs ran a steel mill's furnace up until a few years ago. The furnace distributed control system was all coax, and we needed something to hook it into the rest of the network. I was very glad when that system was upgraded.
