Great news for climate!

A record number of green energy projects are underway. 👏

In particular, the rise of solar, wind (despite the headwinds), and grid-scale battery technology for electricity is being driven by market forces - even in places like Texas. The pressure on old thermal (fossil fuel) plants is relentless and will prevail (again, despite Myron Ebell).

2) “There may come a time when the people elected to enact laws decide the modest benefits of regulating greenhouse gases outweigh the considerable economic costs.”

Wrong. Benefit cost analyses regularly show the benefits of reducing GHGs vastly outweigh the costs.

"There may come a time when the people elected to enact laws decide the modest benefits of regulating greenhouse gases outweigh the considerable economic costs." What a shocking thing to write. The Post is unrecognizable now. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

If the federal government wants to more heavily regulate greenhouse gas emissions, Congress needs to pass a new law.

The website of the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels is now live.

Three broad themes, with plenty of scope for good discussions:
- Overcoming economic dependence
- Transforming supply & demand
- Advancing intl cooperation & multilateralism

Also, the German car industry’s woes have sucked up most of the attention.

But another storm is brewing in machinery - the other core engine of Germany’s growth model.

Ramping up renewables; China alone has a pipeline of more than 1,500GW, equivalent to that of the next six countries combined: Brazil (401GW); Australia (368GW); India (234GW); the US (226GW); Spain (165GW); and the Philippines (146GW).

This headline should anger everyone as the largest CO2 polluter is set to solidify its position as such and torpedo efforts to cut emissions.

We are racing through 1.5ºC of heating and will likely cross 2ºC in the late 2030's at current heating rates.

This is a crime against all life on earth!

In what is arguably the World's Best News, it looks like India is going to spend much less time in the "fossil fuel detour" than the US or China. It is moving much more directly to clean electrification.
