"Any artist cancelling their show at the Trump Kennedy Center over political differences isn't courageous or principled—they are selfish, intolerant, and have failed to meet the basic duty of a public artist: to perform for all people"- Kennedy Center spokesperson Roma Daravi

It will be funny when the Kennedy Center has to assert that Chuck Redd's contract is with the still same-named Kennedy Center

To recap:
*The Trump administration illegally renamed the Kennedy Center. They broke the law.
*Now they are suing a guy who refused to perform because of the name change for $1 million.

My usual reminder that “we’re gonna file a lawsuit” isn’t news. That’s a press release. “We filed a lawsuit and here’s the complaint” is news.

Next year's artists signed contracts to perform at "The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts." Since a venue with that name no longer exists, and one with a very division name many artists would not wish to be associated with does, they should be able to get out of their contracts.

A more accurate headline would be that Donald Trump is pursuing legal action.

Amazing: “But the Kennedy Center is not the current owner of trumpkennedycenter.org or trumpkennedycenter.com — because back in August, comedy writer Toby Morton registered those two domain names, expecting Trump and his allies to add Trump’s name to the D.C. landmark.”

I know it's all just bullying.....but hypothetically, if the Kennedy Center were in any way, shape or form setting things up so that the cancellation of a single free jazz concert in a 500-seater can cause them a million dollars in damages, they are fucking things up on an unimaginable level

The administration is suing a professional jazz musician . . . for $1 million. Maybe Miles Davis was a millionaire? The rest of millionaire jazz musicians can be counted on one hand. Maybe they'll confiscate his piano in their effort to "defend the arts"?

Trump controlled non-profit demands $1million from artist who refuses to support them breaking the law.

Good luck with that.

Editor’s Note: The law establishing the Kennedy Center explicitly prohibits its board from adding someone else’s name to the exterior of the center.
