First year of MS, my PI double-booked for Summer and asked if I could sub in to teach a high school engineering bootcamp.

It was the first course I ever designed, I got in contact with our engineering education department and collabed on it. That landed me a pedagogy fellowship- the rest is history
What's the moment of luck that's had the biggest impact for your academic career? For me, it was how I wouldn't have gotten a PhD fellowship if it wasn't for the 1st-ranked person declining, which meant that I was awarded the fellowship as 2nd-ranked applicant. That was my last shot at a PhD.

okay, lemme try putting this in terms that the pearl clutchers use

“You remember in Star Wars where the ewoks cheered after the death star blew up? Wouldn’t it be fucked up if Han said ‘Whoa now, that dude had a family.’ Is that what you want to be known as?”

Pretty crazy someone can be charged federally with interfering in an election and those charges get dropped because they win an election.

Just got out of a packed Wicked screening. SO GOOD.

I was skeptical about the run time- this only covers Act 1 and it's as long as the entire stage musical. But the breathing room feels fine.

There were tears in my row- a lot of old timer fans so happy to see this story on screen!

literally every trans person I know is labeled an "activist" just by virtue of existing and wanting to keep existing, and sure, everyone should advocate for others and better things, but it also means they'll dismiss anything you say because it's "biased"
Labeling people as "activists" simply for having an opinion about the ongoing effort to push them out of society is ghoulish.

"If a woman doesn't look woman enough to a Republican, they want to be able to inspect your genitals to use a bathroom? It's disgusting.

Everyone should reject it completely... they're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kind, and everyone should reject it. It's gross." - AOC

I am finding it quite unbearable to watch Sarah McBride bear the grotesque attack of her colleagues with so much grace. I know it is what we have been taught to expect of trailblazers, but I am increasingly struggling to accept this.

A group of Los Angeles residents claimed a bear damaged their luxury cars.

Insurers and authorities discovered it was really a man in a bear suit.
Insurers say bear that damaged luxury cars was actually a person in a costume
California is seeing its share of bear break-ins. Now it has seen a fake one, with someone in a bear costume rummaging through luxury cars.

Upset that under this new administration, I've basically shelved any post-doc plans for schools in strongly red states.

There are wonderful schools that thrive despite being in states that hate public universities. I can only wish them the best in fighting the good fight.

I'm very disappointed by all the people who don't understand what this means

A little louder now.

You don't know ANY undocumented people.

You are not able to direct authorities to ANY undocumented people.

You have no idea who they are looking for.
You don't know any undocumented people.

I repeat:
You don't know any undocumented people.

2. Central Pattern Generation development. How does the spinal cord *learn* and *create memories*? Just this year we saw proof it can store memories separate from the brain, and just- how??

The New York Times' phrasing here is a bit imprecise & overstates Trump's margin. You have to divide that 237,000 voters by 2. If just about 118,500 voters had actually changed their votes across MI, PA, & WI, Kamala Harris would be the President-Elect right now.
