Tbh I thought ICEblock was performative nonsense but if the doj is pressuring Apple to remove it from the App Store I guess it wasn’t?

how *would* you explain this. "imagine if the only company making serious investments in JavaScript was, like, Mailchimp, and the language's only killer app/framework was written by JK Rowling, whose own business was utterly insignificant"

is there a good explainer out there for the Ruby Central stuff for somebody not very familiar with the ecosystem?

it's so funny to see America's health insurance companies be like "look. If there's one thing we love it's denying you care. but we ran the numbers - and we cannot BELIEVE we're saying this - and it's cheaper for us to just pay for the vaccines than deal with you going to the ER."
Regardless of the disgraceful nonsense we will likely hear from this administration in the coming days on vaccine “recommendations,” Americas healthcare insurers issued a joint statement tonight saying coverage for Covid and flu shots will remain unchanged from prior years.

Speaks for itself.

I grew up in the South so I have heard from many a white person argue passionately that they don’t care what somebody says they just care how they say it. It took leaving the South to realize this meant that they didn’t care what somebody said as long as they were also white or agreed with them.

People missing an important point about folks getting fired for whatever they said about Charlie Kirk: Americans are being conditioned to be snitches on their fellow citizens who don’t toe a party line on what is “allowed” to be expressed. And employers are going along. It’s the new secret police

Found a late season volunteer sungold in a corner of my garden (probably from seeds that dropped last year - volunteer tomatoes tend to not start really fruiting until now bc they don’t germinate until it gets warmer) and I decided to lovingly stake and water and fertilize it for a few weeks.

Collaborating with only robots and not humans seems like a fundamentally lonely endeavor, a cul de sac approach to anything worth building.

I keep thinking about how even in video games we were quick to add chat and group interaction.

The fraction of people in Germany who were Jewish in 1933 (~0.75%) is lower than the fraction of people in the US today who are trans (~1%). Anyone willing to sacrifice trans people now, would have sacrificed Jews then.
