This is a very 90s main mechanic.

I mean that EXTREMELY positively.
The 90s/00s had these games where the main mechanic/concept just made me ask "why?" but then gave me so much fun that I forgot the question entirely.

It's kinda like the feeling of reading Douglas Adams

Almost done with the Player's moveset during FIELD MODE.
There are parts in which the mech can't enter, thus living the player vulnerable.
As soon as i got the essentials I'll move them to #gbstudio!

This is the most N64 I've ever heard a modern N64 game sound. Huge props to the sound team

They even nailed the weirdly complex, incredibly funky and jazzy music!

i love this example of how even "basic" anims like walking can still show the character's personality.

it could just be a walk, but no! It's a boxing-like step, which helps sell that Kyle is a FIGHTER.
also, it's almost more of a skip, which makes him look agile and most of all, energetic +

this is very good mindset for any artist tbh.

I had an artist friend who'd send me her art and legit say "tell me what SUCKS about it". Her art skills grew REALLY FAST once she started doing that
Instead of fearing negative #Steam reviews, I'm actually looking forward to them. Sure, I'll get a few that are pure venom, but even if anyone were to simply say "game's trash," I'd understand why, and it would only make me strive to do better in the future

I guess one "advantage" of having ADHD is that it's pretty much impossible to lie to myself about this, so I learned it VERY quick.
"Tribal Knowledge"

This is one of the biggest pain points of my job. Game Preservation suffers massively when groups keep knowledge in their heads and don't write it down, or don't document *where* they wrote it down

Never trust what you think you will remember. Write it down

This is... at the same time depressingly true, yet oddly hopeful?

It's sad we have to unlearn so much, but it's awesome to find out that some of what we think holds us back is just not real
As an adult I realize how much I had to unlearn from my childhood. In school the lessons made me feel like the world was so restrictive and there were rules that absolutely could not be broken and to find out that most things are actually incredibly fluid, evolving and changing at a constant rate

fun fact about us sound designers:
A surprisingly big part of our brain is solely dedicated to figuring out "why is this satisfying?" ANY time we hear a cool sound
Making a Hit SFX, but this Glass Break sound is so damn satisfying!
+ added some size randomness to the claw trails :)

It's always awesome to see devs playing with established mechanics that are usually taken for granted... or, in this case, replacing them entirely!

It's so common for us to think "shooting game = boolet countin" that something like this just feels impossibly fresh
Ammo has been removed from NIGHTMARE OPERATOR. It has been replaced with the Heat System.

Shooting generates Heat. Overheating means you cannot shoot for a period.
Switching Modules, performing melee attacks, and utilizing Discharge Cancels reduce Heat.

started work on the combat system...my plan is to have 4/5 weapon classes each with their own move sets, with each type having a set of dynamic stats that can be tweaked to create new weapons of that class (alongside enchantments/effects) #pixelart #platformer #unity2d #indiedev #gamedev

fun fact, this is actually what I look like when swimming.
I was supposed to record my progress on the sound effects (I now have at least placeholders for everything), but instead ended up trying to finish the level in zero gravity. Took me like 30 minutes, so I'm sharing this instead.
