What's the name for this fundamental law of game dev?
Features you dread working on for months end up taking half a day to actually complete, while "little idea I had" features take at least three times as long as you expect to complete and break every time you touch a seemingly unrelated system.

Speaking of which if you are in Toronto and you know how to fix or replace a 45-year-old potentiometer, like the one in the Epoch Cassette Vision ( cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_ful... … the knob in the upper left is just noise, although the other three work )… uh… DM me or something

I think the main thing is that juice is a communication tool, you use it to emphasize importance so players can read your game easier. If you use it indiscriminately it just becomes baroque noise instead of feedback. (which can also be fine! but not really what it is good at)

writing about this atm but if you are in the business of making money from games, and have a marketing budget, doing reddit ads (or ads) is a great way to build wishlists outside of designing to trends or relying on showcases/virality. If you are a publisher or fund you should be paying for ads!

One of Vanillaware's co-founders (Takehiro Shiga) drew this cool illustration depicting the structure of Chunsoft's most famous sound novels. This was posted around the time 13 Sentinels was entering production, so the devs may have been studying these sound novels while conceptualizing the game.
