Autism is not a disease, you fucks.
This is beautiful in its simplicity and decency.
Massive shoutout out to whoever handles the Royal Canadian Air Force’s social media account. They responded to every single comment on their already very solid Trans Day of Remembrance post and they responded like this…

I wonder how much it bugs Bill Hader that he slightly fumbled the amazing “i roll with a crew of problematic bachelor” line. That clip gets posted a -lot-

as someone who enjoyed Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy with some pretty serious reservations about the third book, is the Book of Dust worth a look?

Here is something we could do: what if we stopped being fucking weird about autism
We can laugh about how stupid this is, but at the end of the day, a not-insignificant number of parents will believe the CDC and refuse to vaccinate. And some of their children will die because of it.

Nixonland. It’s like a James Elroy novel where the main character is “American voters.”
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

...so it kills the genre? because, like--that's the thing about shooting zombies in the head. it kills them. (i _think_ they're going for a pun on "shot in the arm," but you can't do that when the "pun" already means something else.)

still chuckling about that SNL sketch where Sydney Sweeney gets lots of tips at a Hooters restaurant. what -will- they think of next?

I am not-great finance-wise, but the fact that I’ve managed to support Defector (and @thereveal.bsky.social!) as long as I have makes me happy.

It’s a double boost—you get people thinking “oh, that’s easy” and chiming in, and you get people dunking on how bad the movie choice is. Engagement City!
I don't understand "name a movie with [actor] that's not [X]" posts.
I get they're engagement bait, but why exclude a movie? Just to see what other movies are named? But no one who posts like that cares about responses except just getting them.

I wonder if the key character trait for the protagonist in a Vince Gilligan show is stubbornness? in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, it’s a sin, but I’m wondering if that’s the case with Pluribus. (Carol is stubborn, but I’m not convinced that’s a bad thing yet.)

unsurprised to hear that splitting a musical with a notoriously shaky second act into two movies hasn't gone well.

second act problems are kind of fascinating, though! Wicked's is basically "everything that matters happens in Act 1, and now we just need to explain Dorothy."

i'm sure Del Toro's Frankenstein is well done, but i'm just not interested in a version of that story where the doctor is the villain and the monster is the hero. it's more interesting to me as a tragedy when they're both fucked up and kind of sympathetic at the same time.

I still don’t like Network. But I’m very into a Criterion of The Man Who Wasn’t There.

haven't watched all of the new Pluribus episode yet, in part because the cold (heh) open kind of devastated me. having someone who loves you enough to put up with your grumpiness and complaining, who pushes you a little but still respects who you are--and then to lose that person... damn, man.

I get that the lore can be a bit much, but I gotta say, I love how the Wick movies take the ‘80s action genre and turn it into what is basically an extremely straight-faced and sincere live action game of Calvinball.
