We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

FYI: Dems in the senate can't defund ICE. ICE is funded by the Big Ugly Bill. Shutting down DHS on this vote wouldn't touch ICE, but it would shut down FEMA, TSA, Coast Guard, etc. Shutting down ICE requires taking back Congress in the midterms. Dismantling DHS requires the White House in 2028.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

AOC: I don't think so. Sen. Schumer and I have worked together. I think Republicans are afraid of me and they project their fear onto him. So they're just telling on themselves when they say that.

This fact is not breaking through. Republicans have the power to open the government by themselves.

They just need to use the “nuclear option” to suspend or change the filibuster.

Rs nuked three weeks ago for judges, so we know they’re able.

But they’d rather keep it closed and blame Dems.

Just astounding. The reason they can shove through 100 Trump nominees at once is because the GOP changed the rules to eliminate the 60-vote requirement. Something they won’t do to fund the government. Yet they blame Dems.

The government of the United States, which is controlled by Donald Trump in the presidency, Republicans in the Senate, and Republicans in the House, will shut down in a few hours.

It is the first shutdown since the last time Trump was president and he shut down the government.

It is absolutely wild to watch Pete Hegseth declare sexual abuse in the military and war crimes hunky dory—and Republicans explode healthcare costs for millions while shutting down the government—all while getting the same fundraising texts from Democrats I’ve gotten since 2012. It’s mind blowing.

If Republicans can’t get keep the government open, our federal firefighters will have to work without pay. Today, I introduced a bill to change that.

The Federal Firefighter Paycheck Protection Act ensures our firefighters are compensated and won’t be fired during a shutdown.
