Musk is firing exactly the people he wants you to think he’s bringing in: skilled, mission driven tech workers.
New, from me: Musk is not just destroying core government functions, he is also destroying the tech capacity of government.
The people with serious tech skills who care about fixing govt have been fired. Both 18F and the US Digital Service are gone.

Skilled technologists are being forced out of government
18F and USDS are gutted by DOGE

Edward Gorey turned 100 last week, and if you have not read him, you must. I mean that: you're in for a treat.

The fact that the USA has banned visas for trans people but welcomed rapist Andrew Tate shows how all this "defending women" stuff is total bullshit

I'm so confused. Why didn't we hear about this when Brett Cavanaugh was up for appointment?

Listening to The Labyrinth Index, and ridiculously amused by the guy saying "code Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" to get the ghouls to stand down. @cstross.wandering.shop it's details like this that make me love your books

ICE rolled up. Counteraction began: an urgent system of text chains, social-media groups and calls between local leaders.

Response was nearly instantaneous. “Videos are coming in, text messages, people are hitting the street following them throughout the neighborhood until they left."

Honestly, seeing Musk’s massive head being projected through the Net to a hold court over a far-right rally in Germany makes me question the producers’ decision to hire @greatdismal.bsky.social to script this part of the 21st century.

If I was a flight attendant or a pilot, I'd think seriously about going on strike.
@flyingwithsara.bsky.social Sara Nelson, when you get a chance, please let us know if it's safe to fly these days. Thank you!
I literally was just thinking: it's past midnight on the weekend. There won't be any big news.

FAA broke the wee system that tells flight crews about safety issues. They set up a "hotline to communicate with aviation stakeholders." Too bad the hotline for pilots is a little iffy.

This is terrifying because...remember the annexation of Austria in 1938? Gosh, what playbook is going on here?
exactly what he's said he's wanted to do for the past month: attempt to force Canada with economic coercion into agreeing to be annexed by the United States as a "51st State".

take him at his word when he says things, folks.
I think the tariffs on Mexico are nuts but let's take Canada for a minute. I've already posted that fentanyl seized at the northern border is miniscule. What about land apprehensions of migrants? Also tiny by comparison with the southern border. What is Trump trying to achieve here?

Warren is the ranking member on the Senate Banking Committee. Wyden is the same on the Senate Finance Committee. They need to go to the Treasury building with crews from CNN and NBC and demand to be let in. As soon as they're not, hold a press conference right there and explain what DOGE is doing.

is it good or bad that a billionaire oligarch with close ties to foreign dictators is currently downloading the most sensitive information the us federal government has about its citizens to his own private servers?

I think countries around the world should levy tariffs specifically on Tesla in response to US tariffs, as well as banning Twitter as a national security threat

driving a wedge between our co-dictators may be the most effective thing they can do

Here's the speech if you haven't heard it. 13 minutes of your time. Share it with your American friends and neighbours, because they won't see it otherwise. Circulate it in Mexico and Denmark, France and the UK, Panama and Germany, Poland and Estonia, and especially -- especially -- Ukraine.

I need a better word for "offspring" (which btw makes your kids sound lab-grown). "Kid" or "child" don't work so well when they get to their mid-twenties. Same with "sprog."

I welcome any and all gender neutral options!
