not me realizing that I will very abruptly stop having a fun daily podcast listen with the conclusion of @emmanewman.bsky.social and @aptshadow.bsky.social 's tv series advent calendar bonanza (it's been so much fun, so glad you did it)

a little over halfway through God Emperor of Dune, a book which dissects the age old question "what if God was a really horny worm?"

A great example of why AI is so insidiously bad; I saw a sculpture on my morning run and wanted to know more. I did an image search that served up AI generated information about the sculpture. All of it aside from the location (SE Portland) was wrong (even the exact location was inaccurate).

working on draft 0 of my sci fi novel, wherein my brain has decided an interesting story is "what if DS9 but Odo is Brendan Gleason in the Guard, and Gul Dukat is Ianthe from the Locked Tomb?"

it is absolutely a story that I would be interested in reading, that's for sure.

first pack of Tarkir Dragonstorm and I pulled the two potential Pauper Commanders I was most interested in brewing. How would you make these PDH decks?

Fun music trivia: in the Caroline Polachek song "New Normal," the lyric "The orange cat finished what he started" refers to Garfield the Cat, and his beloved lasagne. #true #music #reality

the other thing about S31 in DS9, aside from being depicted as very obviously bad, it's not clear that it's even a real thing, but potentially just a conspiracy by a nutjob who happened to have leverage over people in high places in Starfleet. It's not necessarily a legit super-duper secret CIA
Hey uh I have no creative power in Star Trek anymore so this means nothing, but I 100% object to the head of the franchise Alex Kurtzman justifying a Space C.I.A. for the Federation to exist.

my favorite thing about goodreads is that Im still connected to people there who I'm no longer connected to anywhere else. Like damn, my high school art history teacher (or someone using his Kindle) is reading some very trashy fantasy novels. Good for him.

yesterday I nearly shoved my cart into two people who were standing and having a conversation smack dab in middle of the doorway of the entry/exit to the supermarket. My vision went red with rage and i almost had a aneurysm

reading Knausgaard's Autumn and when he talks about biology, it's like listening to a really annoying close male relative speaks authoritatively about a thing, using a ton of absolutisms, & is wrong, except I really like hearing his opinions about things and the way he views the world.

You can tell companies’ AI projects are going really well because every app is bait-and-switching their most commonly pressed button with something called like “Answers By Glorp” to get people to even accidentally use it

we haven't widely colonized parts of this planet that are far more habitable than Mars!
just a friendly reminder that mars colonization is 100% science fiction.

take mount everest, stack four more mountains of equal size on top of it, and then try to live there.

it’s absolute nonsense.
