Remember smoking in restaurants? And bars? I came of legal drinking age in the last gasp of indoor smoking in the US. You just had to take for granted that your clothes would smell like an ashtray after a night out. The people who pushed for bans were considered scolds and worrywarts.

My hometown’s river is no longer flammable because of public policy! And our lake (Erie) was once considered dead and now it is slowly recovering, thanks largely to environmental regulations.
