- environmental factors

- psychological

For many autistic people, “picky eating” is a legitimate hard-wired sensory aversion. This means that forcing autistic people to eat aversive foods is… the wrong approach, and can make food issues even more traumatic.

Euphemisms are not necessary when talking about Disabled people.

We can't do some things and generally that's not as bad to deal with as abled people's discomfort with the fact that we can't do some things.

We've all heard "If you've met one autistic person, you've met one autistic person."

However, the more autistic people you meet, the more you learn about autism. Not only how autistic people are different, but how often autistic experiences are shared—even by autistic people who SEEM very unalike.

Especially when you start gaslighting yourself.

Shame grows in the silence - when you don’t “look” dysregulated enough to be believed.

When you collapse alone, and no one sees the crash.

We don’t owe anyone proof.

We don’t need to scream for it to "count".

Internalized doesn’t mean imaginary.

When a meltdown is internal - quiet, hidden, invisible - people don’t see distress.

So they deny it ever happened.

They say you’re overreacting.

Too sensitive.

Too much.

But internalized meltdowns are real.

And the gaslighting that follows is its own trauma.

I'm going to transfer a thread about these programs, but:

2. Enter the Ugift code: B1M-J0R
3. Send money from your US bank account.

If you're unfamiliar with how the programs work, I put together some threads explaining the basics and differences of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income.
A lot of people don't know about US SSI and SSDI, the difference between the two, how people qualify for them, how much help they provide or what limitations they come with.

This thread will give a helpful overview on these things. I won't cover all topics because it's a huge mess.

Japanese tea cups or “yunomi” are designed with no handles with the intent that people won’t burn themselves by drinking tea that’s too hot. The idea is that when it’s safe to pick up it’s good to drink.

I don't know how many people know this:

If you ever see a story coming out of the USA, about people getting in trouble with the law for feeding the homeless, many of those laws were in direct retaliation to the Black Panthers setting up food banks and community centers for children and the poor.
