ICE secretly told its officers that any time someone has been ordered removed, ICE can break down their door.

It has been accepted for generations that the only thing which can authorize agents to break into your home is a warrant signed by a judge. No wonder ICE hid this memo!

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Exactly right. ICE routinely brings people back after mistakes. Even still, today! But with him, it was the CECOT deportation flights. It was their defiance of Judge Boasberg. And when his removal threatened to blow up their narrative, they turned the full weight of the federal government on him.
this is little more than a vendetta being pursued by the federal government against a man it unlawfully removed from the country and was forced to bring back
UPDATE: Hours after Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s release in Tennessee, Fox News reports that the Trump administration may deport him to Uganda as early as next week.

Two things can be true:

1) The President has legal authority over the D.C. police and the D.C. National Guard that he doesn't have *anywhere else* in the country; &

2) Even if this doesn't set a legal precedent, it sets an ominous *political* precedent for pretextually overriding local government.

Since April 4, #SCOTUS has issued 15 rulings on 17 emergency applications filed by Trump (three birthright citizenship apps were consolidated).

It has granted relief to Trump ... in all 15 rulings.

It has written majority opinions in only 3.

Today's order is the 7th with no explanation *at all.*
Here we go again: Over an acerbic dissenting opinion by Justice Sotomayor (joined in full by Justices Kagan and Jackson), #SCOTUS, with no explanation, grants a stay in the Department of Education RIFs case—effectively clearing the way for the Trump administration to dismantle much of the agency:

Friendly reminder that Judge Boasberg tried to initiate criminal contempt proceedings in this case, but his order was “administratively stayed” by the D.C. Circuit….in April.
DOJ whistleblower Erez Reuveni says Drew Ensign made a false statement to Judge Boasberg during a hearing on Alien Enemies Act removals.

If Reuveni’s right, it wasn’t the only time Ensign misled the court.

they're doing this because the Insurrection Act sounds cool and edgy but they can't actually justify using the Insurrection Act. it's a silly action by an insecure administration desperately to seem manly and powerful. it should be criticized relentlessly, but it should also be laughed at.
Which makes me think that this is an effort to claim the insurrection act’s power without invoking the insurrection act’s authority. None of this is necessary, at all, and the governor should say so.
