I think my friends who are POC will understand this. Two things are true at the same time.

Nothing is more American than protest.

Nothing is more American than the white supremacy and misogyny people are gathering today to protest.

Both are true.

Why on earth would anyone glorify a document which gave us minority rule and said people of African heritage are only 3/5 human?
"Americans have long glorified their constitution and the rule of law. But Donald Trump’s volatile and vindictive presidency has increasingly replaced that philosophy with something very different – call it “governing by shakedown”. - @greenhousenyt.bsky.social
Trump’s presidential philosophy is government by shakedown | Steven Greenhouse
The president’s strategy is straight out of the authoritarian playbook. Congress and the courts must put a stop to it

Trump wants to get rid of mail-in voting.
I think we would be better served to go to nationwide vote-by-mail ONLY.

90 years ago, Social Security became a reality.

With it, a promise. That every American could retire with dignity. That no senior should be forced to live in abject poverty.

So when Republicans talk of privatizing it, or stripping it away, let me be clear: that’s a betrayal we won't allow.

90 years ago today, Social Security was signed into law, creating a safety net for elderly Americans - It promised economic security as they grow older. I’m determined to protect that promise against the threats from Donald Trump’s administration.

We owe it to our country.

If something is important enough to be the law then two things should be done:
1. Don't put an expiration date on it.
2. Make the laws the same in all 50 states.
NEW: The Voting Rights Act has long been an achievement celebrated by both Democrats and Republicans. But recently, something dark has shifted in American politics, and the conservative Supreme Court may well use this moment to kill Section 2 of the VRA, @marcelias.bsky.social writes.

Micah Beckwith is evil and demonic.
No, you did not give those of us who happened to look like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor any due process. And that was profoundly wrong. It destroyed our lives.

Any Christian who supports the death penalty is saying to the accused:

Jesus died for MY sins, but YOU have to die for your own.
In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”

I think we should want everyone to have what they need. And I think we should want government to play a big role in making that happen.

I believe followers of Jesus never, ever arm themselves.

Tertullian was right: When Jesus disarmed Peter, he disarmed every Christian.

Following Jesus means you would die before you would kill.

How did the NIH cause the pandemic?
TAPPER: 14 Republicans say you're risking undermining critical research by holding up NIH funding

VOUGHT: If they were a company, their stock price would in shambles. They in some respects caused the pandemic. You have an entire institute that does nothing more than DEI research at the NIH.

I think moral people are universally progressive.
This will likely eventually expand to include anyone who disagrees with the regime, as Vance and other prominent conservatives have endorsed a propaganda book that dehumanizes dissenters. This process of dehumanization is essential to enacting their Nazi-like agenda and placing more people in camps.
They have already created propaganda for who is “unhuman”.

I’m standing with my Labor Caucus colleagues to #RaiseTheWage, because $7.25 ain’t cutting it.

Every time a Republican is accused of breaking the law, they appoint a Republican special counsel because of the fear a Democrat would have an axe to grind, but then if a Democrat is accused, they appoint a Republican to avoid the appearance of going to easy on the person being investigated.
It is worth noting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who led the investigation, was a registered Republican. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller to the position, was also a registered Republican

I think we should ban voter ID. Take people's word for it that they are who they say they are. It worked for, like, 200 years!
The RNC backed Indiana's ban on student IDs for voting, calling the law constitutional and neutral. This comes as voting rights advocates highlight a national trend of GOP-led states targeting student access to the ballot.

I believe the key to Democratic wins in the future is going to be to go unapologetically to the left. Tepid, milquetoast centrism is one of the biggest enablers of the right.
Centrist Democrats Are the Actual Traitors to Their Party
While progressives often get accused of undermining the Democratic Party, the evidence shows that it’s the moderate wing that most often violates the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” principle.
