Some lunchtime about why I'm right and Alex Petridis' classist and dismissive take on Britpop is Peak Guardian and Peak Wrong.... with an an amazing playlist as a reward if you make it all the way to the end.
🇬🇧🥤🧵[Britpop thread] incoming
(For those who don’t know me, I’ve got form for this over on twitter - some links further down the 🧵)
Incentive to stick with it is the link to an epic playlist at the end. 1/22

Like the incredible Life Story which I had to watch again and again on a worn out VHS until I threw away the machine. Then couldn’t find until it reappeared recently.

Meanwhile, the BBC, again, with a much deeper and more impressive library than Netflix, as far as I can tell the function of the login is to send you the same peevish 'are you SURE you have a TV licence?' message while learning *nothing* about you:

Alan is spot on here. Big strategic lessons for Labour.
Both Dutton in Australia and Poilievre in Canada *losing their own seats* in the same week.
I think we can begin to talk about a clear backlash against the International Nationalist movement.. do Labour fancy joining in?

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is preparing tougher measures on immigration to stem a record flow of arrivals across the English Channel and stave off the threat posed by Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party after it made sweeping gains in this week’s local elections.

Thirty years on Adrian remembers the Clause IV special conference and how it nearly didn’t happen.
A friend has reminded me today is the 30th anniversary of the special conference to write a new Clause IV into the Labour constitution... 1/6

A fascinating piece about party management by @siennarodgers.bsky.social but as a former PLP secretary I would gently suggest that it is often helpful to have some gap between the PLP and the leader’s office so that MPs have a trusted place to let off steam. Let the whips do the whipping.

I know voice notes aren't for everyone but currently listening to a 16-minute one from a close friend and taking notes as I go so I remember to address every topic worth responding to and: man you're missing out if you don't like voice notes, this is such a fun way to do friendship
