Painting bus lanes red should be non negotiable.

Without this the only way to know that a lane is a bus lane is to read a sign. Not everyone who drives can read perfect English. This is why the MUTCD (The Road sign Bible) recommends avoiding signs with words.

Red paint is easier to understand.

#A-Haydn-A-Day So I went with the Bernstein CBS 84 today. The next Symphony will be announced tomorrow morning at approximately 5.30 am UK time, unless I wake in the middle of the night and get bored! Follow the hashtag to see some absolutely brilliant posts!

If you bring central London to a halt in order to campaign against catastrophic climate change then you're a "barmy" eco "fanatic" who deserves to be locked up.

If you do the same to hang on to your multimillion pound inheritance tax exemption then you're a brave freedom fighter defying the odds

Composer Franz Schubert died on 19 November 1828. Of all Schubert works, the one that speaks to me most is the 14th Quartet. Yet I have very few versions of it. What are your favourite recordings of Schubert’s ‘Death and the Maiden’ Quartet? #classicalmusic

A lovely thread of words & images:
For many years I have been posting little observations online. What you may not know is that for many years, artists have been illustrating them - for no reason other than they wanted to respond. Below is a thread of some of these beautiful drawings because they should be seen 🧵

I drove our car to the gym today and that's ok. My feelings on active transportation in North America are that, for example, bikes are not an 'all or nothing' choice. Do what you can, when you can, and don't feel bad about your choice when the built environment doesn't support a better decision.

NEW: “Do bike lanes really cause more traffic congestion? Here's what the research says. Studies from around the world show bike lanes ease congestion, reduce emissions & are a boon to businesses.”

And removing them would cost a lot & make traffic worse.

Green spaces in urban areas cut down heat-related deaths

While this is no surprise, it’s worth pointing out again

Especially as urban planners seem to forget this

(A couple of trees and a planter isn’t a green space either)

Ooh, good to know - I’m definitely a Fietser on a Brompton…
An explanation for anyone following my account: 🙂

A FIETSER is a Dutch 🇳🇱 word for someone who bikes for transportation. They dress for the destination, not the ride.

Fietsers differ from Wielrenners (cyclists), who bike for sport and speed, often in special gear.

Classic version and choral version. The choral was one of the most powerful experiences i have had.
🎶🎂 #ComposerBirthday Malcolm Arnold was born #OTD in 1921. His music dances between poignant lyricism and vibrant energy, capturing the essence of British wit.
