There's something bigger than hypocrisy going on here.

Vampire: the Masquerade: Bloodlines (the original one) is basically this game that promises this blend of a rich immersive sim sandbox with a very narratively reactive RPG, and it only delivers that in very brief spurts but by now people only remember those spurts.
