While this article goes very rightly into the disrespect actors have faced in dubbing, underneath that is an entire ecosystem of abused and rushed freelancers doing the timecoding, adapting, directing, engineering, and mixing who Amazon also attempted to cut.

Amazon's AI anime dubbing fiasco reminds us that voice actors are severely undervalued
Amazon recently rolled out bad AI-generated dubs for several anime on Prime Video, demonstrating yet again that voice actors are undervalued.

Great thread here on one of the reasons I’m not a ‘Mayor Pete’ fan and thing that running him in National primaries is sort of an albatross. I know a lot of white midwesterners who feel good about Buttigieg, but I don’t.
Way back when, mayor Pete's reform-minded chief of police, Daryl Boykins, recorded some of his officers making vile racist statements. So Buttigieg fired... the police chief.🤡

Boykins was the 1st Black police chief in city history, and was building trust with Black folk.

But it gets worse...

I am no @maryrobinettekowal.com but I am greatly enjoying doing voices while reading @seananmcguire.bsky.social ‘s Rosemary and Rue to my youngest. Protean characters who change voice on a dime mid dialogue is FUN! I’d forgotten that character touch in recent books.

Really proud of my delightfully weird and creative teenager. “I designed a tattoo that my teacher put permanently on his body” is a pretty awesome achievement. www.instagram.com/reel/DPHOTlW...

I am *begging* people to look up the actual history of the Luddite movement with it being bandied about everywhere.

They weren't anti-tech, they were anti-exploitation, anti-Industrialist, pro-worker safety textile worker radicals who disabled factory machines that were maiming and killing workers.

Every time I get a journalist call for comment now I close my remarks with “members of a government that believes it is not bound by the rule of law are not entitled to its protection.”

Law only works if people pretend it exists. When we take Trump's word for it that he has the authority to do something it *gives* him that authority.

It is important that journalists stop reporting what Trump or Musk says as law.

I fully believe that there's a direct line you can draw from South Park popularizing the "oh it's okay to be racist/transphobic/antisemitic if you're targeting everyone equally" school of thought to the current Joe Rogan mindrot hellscape
i think the south park guys should be up against the wall for their crimes against humanity

I have been wondering why US leftists and liberals alike are so terrible at long term strategy lately. Then I remembered that we’re in this predicament because neither camp listens to Black people or respects our history in this country beyond lip service.

Abolition & civil rights took *centuries.*

If I could make a plea for BlueSky, it’s this: Please make a point of sharing links to articles, essays and more that you LOVE, that you enjoyed, that expanded you in some way.

I’m always surprised by the dominance of hate-shares, complaint shares on here. And I think it has a riptide effect.

note how long it took the French from calling the election to holding not 1 but 2 votes? and organizing the shit out of the second one? LESS THAN ONE MONTH
A national election does not have to be a painful 1.5-2 year process! the US election campaign should quite honestly not even have started yet!!

Long elections waste immense amounts of money. they harass potential voters into apathy. They play into the horse-race, scandal-fed view of politics that feeds deeply unserious media coverage. They NOT INCIDENTALLY make it difficult/impossible for campaigns to deal with last-minute surprises.

Long election campaigns also put the emphasis, over and over again, ON THE ELECTION rather than on governing: like voting is all we as citizens have to do; like winning is the most important quality in a candidate.

GOVERNING. The thing is GOVERNING. Elections should be a means of accountability+
