Three stories in poor air quality and wildfires on the 8am CBC news.

No mention of N95s. No mention of air cleaners.

Climate change is real. But nobody wants to talk about solutions or mitigations.

The entirety of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health was wiped out last night in a form letter sent by RFK Jr.

NIOSH is an agency in the CDC that investigates workplace hazards and finds solutions. It protects workers, so it’s gone. Even firefighters.

Free masks for all should be included in state budgets, not mask bans. Shame on New York Governor Kathy Hochul for pushing the latter, which will make us all more vulnerable to multiple health threats including airborne viruses and climate change.

Simple messages are always more effective than complicated messages. And more accurate, too.

✅ Wear a respirator in public
❌ Wear a mask in "crowded indoor spaces"

✅ Everyone should wear a respirator
❌ People w/ certain medical conditions should wear masks

Remember that a mask does more than protect against covid.

A well fitted respirator will also keep you safe from flu, measles, TB and other airborne viruses. It will keep those around you safe if you’re sick.

It’s an easy way to demonstrate community care and solidarity.

Telehealth Will Die In 3 Weeks Without Congressional Action
Urgent action is needed to pass the Telehealth Modernization Act before it expires, ending telemedicine on Dec. 31. This would be devastating for disabled and rural patients.

Still lugging around air cleaners.

Still monitoring CO2 levels.

Still advocating for improved indoor air quality on campus because clean air is an accessibility issue.

In 2021, COVID was shown to be fully airborne. Yet for years, hospitals have failed to upgrade infection control measures. Bodies like the WHO and CDC are leaving HCW and patients in danger by failing to match recommendations to the science.
