You might be surprised by whether your area truly has good air quality. You can’t always tell by looking around. The WHO PM2.5 annual avg limit is 5ug/m3, but really it’s as close to zero as possible. If you’re in the low single digits most of the time, lucky you.

There are other reasons to wear one outside, mainly poor air quality. Most of the world has poor air quality if not almost all the time, at least some of the time. PM2.5 over very low single digits is likely very bad for long term health. And a source of microplastics.

Evidence is mounting and has been consistent across countries globally. Both in terms of self-reported data (yes, limitations, but it’s consistent), and disability levels. You can find this data without much effort, and notice how it happens to trend differently post 2020.
