The brazenness with which ICE violates the law (described in @radleybalko.bsky.social’s excellent piece) is a byproduct of zero civil & criminal accountability for officers. Part of the explanation is Trump’s lawlessness. But ICE officers have no reason to fear consequences for crossing the line.
Excellent @radleybalko.bsky.social piece on why what we are seeing in Minneapolis is, in fact, something qualitatively different than the police violence that happens all too often.

This struck me as a key line: the OPEN contempt for accountability. Such explicitness matters.

"Just like the killing of Renée Good, Saturday morning’s shooting once again raises the question of why it is so damned difficult to hold federal officers—and the federal government itself—accountable if and when they violate our rights."

Me on the federal accountability gap—and how to close it:
204. Accountability After Minneapolis
A short post explaining (1) why it's so hard to hold federal officers and/or the federal government liable for violating our rights; and (2) how a one-sentence statute could (and *SHOULD*) fix it.

Donald Trump is now using DOJ to threaten the Fed Chair. Threats to an independent Fed impact market stability, inflation, costs, your retirement, and employment—things Americans cannot afford. This is clearly an abuse of power.

In the midst of the horrific tragedy in Bondi, Gal Gadot comes forward with a message of love and unity.

No matter how many people try to portray her differently, she has always been a woman for peace.

And this particular message is one we should all be sharing.

We are heartbroken by the horrific terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney.

Hanukkah commemorates the Jewish people's resilience and their right to exist, worship, and live openly as Jews. The perpetrators of this attack sought to extinguish that light and terrorize Jewish communities worldwide.

Pay attention to your local school board elections, US folks. If your kid, like mine, has an IEP, you’ll want board members who will fight to see it’s adhered to, rather than have your kid’s rights to an education stripped away. (School board elections were always important; triply so now)
