CRCL volunteers planted 4000 shrubs along terraces north of Lake Boudreaux with the Grand Caillou/Dulac Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw, Louisiana CPRA. Images show Cpt. Coco standing in the same spot 6 months apart. We’re super excited about the health & survival rates of this planting!

A month ago, volunteers planted 140 oak trees along a historic Chenier ridge. Cheniers serve as a natural barrier that protects the shoreline from erosion and provide habitat. However, Southwest Louisiana's low elevation, subsiding land and flooding contributes to loss of Chenier habitats.

Last week, volunteers started building our 8th recycled oyster reef with The Grand Caillou/Dulac Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw and LUMCON in Cocodrie, LA. We’re excited to keep the momentum going!

Students at this New Orleans high school have logged over 1000 volunteer hours working on CRCL’s restoration projects and take time to learn about coastal issues & study the state’s Coastal Master Plan.

In 2019, volunteers deployed 200 tons of recycled shells by hand to restore 400 ft of reef in Bayou Pointe-au-Chien. Since then, CRCL has built several other community reefs in coastal LA, helping to slow the rate of land loss in a state where about 2,000 square miles of wetlands have vanished.
