We had an outstanding turnout for yesterday’s lecture with Dr. Keagan LeJeune! Over one hundred people joined us to learn about how place names can tell stories and learn about what CRCL is doing to restore those places. Stay tuned for more CRCLectures!

In February, CRCL teamed up with the NFL, the Super Bowl Host Committee, FORCE BLUE & Chefs Brigade to build a living shoreline in Leeville. But we didn’t stop there! This fall, we constructed an oyster reef in Cocodrie with The Grand Caillou/Dulac Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha Choctaw & LUMCON.

Over six days, hundreds of volunteers helped deploy 200 tons of shell to help protect 650 ft of shoreline. It was a pleasure to partner with The Grand Caillou/Dulac Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw & LUMCON. We’re excited to see the reef become habitat for wetlands species & oyster growth.

Hmmm, I wonder why these birds are standing under this cypress tree. They must be collecting seeds for CRCL’s native seed drive – and you can too!

Collect bald cypress seeds and send them to us! We'll use them to plant trees we can plant across the coast!

A month ago, volunteers planted 140 oak trees along a historic Chenier ridge. Cheniers serve as a natural barrier that protects the shoreline from erosion and provide habitat. However, Southwest Louisiana's low elevation, subsiding land and flooding contributes to loss of Chenier habitats.
