I love the little birds that don't get any attention. The Torrent Tyrannulet is a very special little flycatcher that spends its whole life hunting insects on the edges of fast-moving rivers. At first, they look like bits of foam or spray at the edge of the water.

A female Western Gull was recorded riding 150km in a garbage truck from San Francisco to a compost facility in Central CA, probably to forage. TWICE. An innovator, an icon, a genius.

Newest #watercolor #paleoart. Agressive Leptoceratops charges a T.rex with a threat display. This isn’t purely display, however, since a well placed chomp from that beak could do real damage to the much larger carnivore. Small hornless ceratopsians are overlooked too much. 🦖

The floof squad! In order: Zhenyuanlong suni, Daurlong wangi, Iyuku raathi, and Sanxiasaurus modaoxiensis

I just love feathered #dinosaurs so much, and I like the challenge of taking inspiration from patterns that tend to appear in modern birds without copying any one species wholesale!

If you see this, post a skeleton.

The "Charlotte whale," an Ice Age beluga and Vermont's state marine fossil. Specimen housed in the University of Vermont's Perkins Museum of Geology. What is now the all-but-landlocked Lake Champlain was once much larger and connected to the North Atlantic.

Realized I never posted anything about it here, but I recently passed the 2,000th day of my streak on @inaturalist.bsky.social / iNaturalist!!! Wrote a journal post about it, linked below. Here's to the next 2,000!

Day 2,000 of my streak!
Hello to whomever may read this!!! I am making this journal post to note an occasion that, while perhaps not momentous, is significant, at least to me. Today, as of the day this is posted, is the 2,00...

Wanna see something REALLY cool?

This Bristletail of the Order Archeognatha is an ancient insect that evolved around the same time as the Arachnids. And they live here, in Ireland.

You can find them on seashores, under stones and driftwood. Usually accompanied by Sea Slaters and Amphipods.

A mysteriously large pterosaur finally has an identity
A Jurassic pterosaur fossil, known to paleontologists for over 160 years, isn’t a new species. It is an odd specimen of Rhamphorhynchus muensteri.

So this little #SeaSlug is a type of sap sucker in the genus Costasiella. These are not technically #Nudibranch and belong in the super order of #Sacoglossa. They perform kleptoplasty where they steal chloroplasts from their Avrainvillea algae host and utilise them for photosynthesis
