A great article with very helpful tips for householders drying clothes inside. I often worry that folk not used to our weather don’t realise the risks from running a warm but damp house in the UK.

The opportunity to transform it, now under Council consideration, must not be squandered. New drawings by Richard Murphy architects suggest an imaginative way forward, catering for tram, bus, cycling and large numbers of pedestrians, whilst reducing vehicle dominance. This is the type of approach that the Council should be developing, rather than its current proposals – which its own report admits could be ‘more aspirational’ ! I suspect I'll make myself unpopular again, but I welcome this. Small modular reactors make decarbonising heavy industrial processes; hydrogen production; grid balancing and other tasks easier. We don't need to choose between SMRs and renewables. We can have both.

One of the biggest corporate donors to the populist Reform U.K. party has sold almost $2 million worth of transmitters, cockpit equipment, antennas and other sensitive technology to a major supplier of Moscow’s blacklisted state weapons agency, documents show. From 2023 to 2024, the company, part of the British aerospace manufacturer H.R. Smith Group, shipped the equipment to an Indian firm that is the biggest trading partner of the Russian arms agency, Rosoboronexport. H.R. Smith Group donated 100,000 pounds (just under $130,000) to Reform U.K. last year, two days after Nigel Farage was announced as the party’s leader. The company is run by Richard Smith, a businessman who owns 55 Tufton Street, a Westminster townhouse that is home to some of Britain’s most influential right-wing lobbying and research groups.

I’ve kept this piece of paper for nearly 9 years.

As a scientist entering politics in 2015/6… it was utterly (and grimly) fascinating to me that those who voted Brexit trusted *no-one*.

There was no category of society that Leave voters, on average, had faith in and would readily defer to.
YouGov polling from 2016 on who Remainers and Leavers trusted or didn’t.

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.
