I had a long conversation with MIT Tech Review’s @willdouglasheaven.bsky.social about AGI; it fed into this very good read on the rise of AGI orthodoxy
How AGI became the most consequential conspiracy theory of our time
The idea that machines will be as smart as—or smarter than—humans has hijacked an entire industry. But look closely and you’ll see it’s a myth that persists for many of the same reasons conspiracies d...

JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

Today is a day that will go down in history and one of the most successful sabotage operations of all time.

At least 2, possibly 3 air bases struck by FPVs simultaneously destroying large numbers of Russian strategic bombers.

I used to dream about being free.

Early on, while I was still facing a life sentence and had yet to be sentenced to prison, I dreamt of the miraculous. The impossible.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

In this current harsh world, let's warm a few hearts remembering the events of 7-8 March 1991, when the 90,000 people of Brindisi woke up to find 25,000 Albanians roaming the streets of their town. For perspective, that's roughly equivalent to 25k people suddenly landing in Hastings [Thread] >> 1

Complicated, and the discussion would be more credible if not led by commercial rivals of Lockheed-Martin.

Oh man, I have so many stories about that "startup". The founder Marshall Webb spent a year harassing me because I posted a research paper on the Mirai botnet (he considered himself to be the sole authority). It later turned out his knowledge came from him personally hosting their infrastructure 1/5
A teen DOGE staffer recently given access to government systems worked at a startup known for hiring convicted hackers. Someone using a Telegram handle associated with him also solicited a cyberattack-for-hire service in 2022. All raising questions about his vetting. www.wired.com/story/edward...

Experts question whether Edward Coristine, a DOGE staffer who has gone by “Big Balls” online, would pass the background check typically required for access to sensitive US government systems.
