An update on the war following a recent trip. The situation has improved compared with Fall 2024. Russian offensive momentum slowed significantly over the winter, though it is premature to claim that the front has stabilized, especially following AFU withdrawal in Kursk. /1

Every news story has three parts: the what, the where, and the why.

The what and the where is news, the why is almost always biased commentary.

If you want to be a smart news consumer you should almost always ignore that third part.

“News” is what happened where. Full stop.

"I'm ashamed to be American" is pretty performative and not usually apt -- America is a lot of things! and a lot of people! -- but I'm not sure what else to say today. This is sickening, especially when you consider the price Ukraine has paid in blood for 3 years.

Misinforpation by President Trump.

While we typically refrain from political commentary, President Donald Trump's recent statement regarding the war in Ukraine is so egregious that we feel compelled to respond.

We asked for it.

We voted for it.

And it’s definitely coming.

Useful to remember that Trump is in a honeymoon period in which he can do almost anything.

We don’t know what will break it, when it will break, and how that will look like, but it’s coming.

There’s a bad conspiracy theory going around that Bob Woodward claims in his book ‘War’ that the AFU allowed 30,000 Russian troops to quietly withdraw from Kherson due to US pressure on Kiyv. It’s false on all counts. 1/

When Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell in Syria, a critical geopolitical question emerged: can Russia maintain its foothold in the MENA region, and if so, how? What does this mean for Ukraine? Below are the key points from the latest Frontelligence Insight report:

One of the biggest lessons from Syria is that, just a month ago, almost no one could have predicted the Assad regime would fall today. The "realities on the ground" crowd would have denied such a possibility. A reminder of why people in Ukraine fight rather than surrender.
