Here’s a mid-2nd millennium BCE Mycenaean krater from Rhodes with an octopus design. It’s also nice to see this long tradition of cephalopodine decoration continued to this day in the barber shops of Byron Bay, Australia…..

Palace of Aigai: Greece reopens huge Alexander the Great monument
Greece spent 16 years restoring palace ruins where Alexander the Great was crowned more than 2,000 years ago.

First read of 2023 ✨📖

This is my first time reading Alcestis and I loved the character of the Nurse, but it's been great to re-read Iphigenia in Tauris with its macabre setting, (not so) subtle disrespect for the gods and Orestes/Pylades at their shenanigans again.

best part of this is that in context Data is talking about how terrorism can sometimes be pretty useful actually
fully convinced that the popularity of this screenshot has single handedly created a powerful tulpa that people are manifesting and it will cause the downfall of the UK in 2024

One of the many things I adore about writing is research. I can spend weeks in this stage and never get close to a wrap up, but the time is never wasted.

it's been YEARS since @narratricenessa.bsky.social tried to get me into P. Djeli Clark... after picking up "A Dead Djinn in Cairo" today, I regret it took me so long 🥲

I do have a plan for this, and yes it includes comic books, novellas and short stories. 😅

The cathedral of Syracuse, Sicily, is a typically wild, ornate baroque extravaganza but inside, & built into its very fabric, are the remains of the vast Doric Temple of Athena built by Gelon after defeating the Carthaginians at Himera in 480BCE. Magnificent

not an original thought but bears repeating: half of writing is just being allowed time to sit on your ass uninterrupted and think about things really hard until you puzzle them out, which doesn't look or feel like work at all. but it is!

One of many casual reminders that aqueducts weren’t a strictly Roman invention! AncientSky

"Dark Woods, Deep Water" is out in the world today.
If you like dark, Gothic fantasy fuelled by sorrow and rage, if you want vengeful Slavic gods, tired, disillusioned heroes and clever rogues, give it a try.

The poet Ovid was banished from Rome in 8AD to Tomis (modern Constanța in Romania) by the Emperor Augustus. The council of the city of Rome revoked his exile in December 2017, over 2000 years after his banishment.
