I see the end of opposing fossil fuels and the start of flat-out ignoring greenhouse gas emissions as a catastrophic ideological position and I want to ensure that the climate movement doesn't fall into that trap any deeper than parts of it already have.

1/2 Australians have good reasons for avoiding the US under the Trump regime.

And anti-fascist Americans are increasingly suggesting the same to foreign tourists as an act of solidarity.

One interview featured a teen who said the ban won't work as they would just find an alternative platform. The PM menacingly said something like "and we'll find you there as well". What a total creep, but also 100% on brand for a political party that wants to lock up kids as young as 10.

Significant statement from the Ombudsman on payment suspensions - the system is unfairly and unlawfully punishing people who are "below the poverty line" and are "unlikely to find ongoing employment no matter how hard they try to comply with the requirements placed upon them"

Like these problems have been around for a while, but ChatGPT presents a unique temptation for students. I think if it existed 50 years ago we’d see a lot of the same issues. Or in other words, I think ChatGPT is a problem in and of itself, alongside larger structural/institutional issues.

They ran out of room for the fine print:

"LET THEM BE KIDS [exclusions may apply:
- News Corp punching down on trans kids
- State govts locking up more & younger black kids
- the Albanese govt refusing to ban gambling ads or take real climate action, and keeping 1 in 6 kids living in poverty...]"

Anyway if all you have is “doesn’t pass the pub test” try harder. Or push for all spending rules to be changed if you feel so enraged.

But cripes there’s a lot of bored journos counting down to Christmas holidays.

Trans kids won't disappear. Just like restricting abortions doesn't stop unwanted pregnancies. All it does is drive people to less safe care and ruin lives.

Never, ever fall for the line that transphobia is about protecting women. It is only about hate, it only ever has been about hate.
What did you think would happen when you restricted access to care?

Even more US military assets coming to Australia. More US bases. More US weapons. Celebrating a dominant foreign government sending its military into our harbours and cities and taking multiple footholds here … it’s cringeworthy, tragic and wrong.

And yet he's still unwilling or unable to lead. #auspol

And so the cycle continues: Trump wrecks the market with his own policies, then uses taxpayer money to bail out the damage, and somehow sells it back to voters as a win. Truly exhausting.
Trump is giving another $12 billion of taxpayer money to bail out farmers again from his disastrous policies. Just like he had to bail them out in his first term from his disastrous policies. But they will continue to vote Republican, as long as they keep getting their welfare checks.

Social media replicates traditional mainstream media in this way: the “right-wing” ideology is pure poison and in order to have any real hold in the general population requires billionaires to control and manipulate the information sphere to relentlessly distort, fearmonger and warmonger.
The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"
