The sabotage is happening everywhere all at once; a gang of supremacists, so convinced of their own superiority that they never bothered learning much about the sum total of human knowledge, and who now, faced with their own vast ignorance about human progress, have made human progress their enemy.

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market.

Four giants control 80% of meat processing.

A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry.

Governments and voters are both reacting to algorithm-shaped “public opinion,” not grounded priorities. Immigration feels urgent because platforms amplify fear, pulling parties into hollow performances of toughness. The far right reads that drift as confirmation it’s winning.

Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

"Low-trust" is a funny term because most of them end up distrusting the people they should trust and extended enormous credulity to those they shouldn't

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

capitalism is about the consolidation of power. the dollars are the scoreboard, not the goal. they hate redistributive policies not just because it would cost them money but because they would redistribtute the *power* as much as the money.
Rick Caruso spent $160 for every vote in LA to lose to Karen Bass. Every billionaire would rather set $100 million on fire before they will cede control of the electorate.
"In the weeks before Andrew Cuomo’s mayoral dream went up in smoke on election night, a handful of independent spending groups backed by New York City’s oligarchy spent more than $55 million supporting the ex-governor or attacking his ultimately victorious rival, Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani."

As SNAP hangs in the balance for nearly 42 million people, misinformation is rampant. Myths of laziness and fraud persist when we should be talking about too low wages for workers, income inequality, and our threadbare social safety net.

In this guest post, Adam Chandler sorts fact from fiction:
SNAP benefits feed essential needs while still leaving many hungry for more
Journalist and author Adam Chandler explains what so much of the conversation about them gets wrong.

Republicans have less money but understand politics better. This is why they win.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.
