hopping back on here for the first time in months, and likely the last time for several more, to say that this morning I am hate-reading Vermeule and love-reading NJ DOT com's quarter century high school hockey team article

we really gotta be clear about what the end game is here for the conservative movement - it's about killing people, one way or another
the biggest NIMBY, anti-transit nyc city council member is now posting memes about murdering DSA members

I am not a member of DSA but this is insane. Vickie Paladino must be expelled from the council.

"suggested"

we can just say "lied"
President Trump suggested that efforts to diversify the ranks of the FAA were to blame for the plane crash on Wednesday that killed 67 people, even as he acknowledged that he had no evidence, and was instead relying on "common sense."

Here’s a fact check of his remarks.
Fact-Checking Trump’s D.C. Plane Crash News Conference and Remarks on D.E.I.
There is no evidence that diversity efforts played a role in the crash, and his statements disregarded his own administration’s hiring policies.

Teen Vogue will do more to dismantle fascism in America than the DNC when all is said and done, put it in the books
"where are all the protests?"

read our series showing the legacy of both the Trump and Biden admins—from BLM in the 2010s, to Standing Rock, to George Floyd, to the Palestine encampments—as protest suppression and criminalization. politicians want to call blocking traffic and masking "terrorism."
Welcome to the United States of Suppression
Our new series documents the recent crackdown on dissent and protests in the U.S.

One of the worst things about AI is that it devalues Actually Doing Something. The act of researching or reading is valuable in and of itself. If we're just asking the computer to do everything for us we're turning into the slobs from Wall-E.

my work computer gives me these aggregated/algo'd suggested news stories about current events/pop culture/etc. and one of them just informed me that Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy came out almost 25 years ago, which absolutely came for me

reminds me of the time I saw a guy in the butt end of the car with his fly down, and someone on the long bench in the middle of the car, opposite side, noticed, so like five people played telephone to discretely let him know and then they all high-fived when it was a problem solved - heartwarming
A perfect NYC moment: a woman had gotten freshly-baked bread from a wonderful local bakery, but forgot it with her friend when she boarded the subway. As the doors closed, the friend just set the bag down inside the closing doors. A chain of strangers wordlessly passed it to the beaming woman. 🥖🗽

simply one of the dumbest takes you could have, potentially ever
Doctors have a profit motive. If care is costless patients have a motive to consume as much as they can. The insurer’s profit motive is positioned against these two motives. Even if you remove it, something needs to fill that role
Why would that happen? Without a profit motive in the system there’s no reason to “abuse” it. And accessible preventative medicine is dramatically cheaper than the alternative.
