Last night @bostonschools.boston.gov made recommendations to the school committee that will double down on exclusionary policies for the city's "exam schools".
We are *addicted* to the idea of merit – because it's easier to pick "winners" than provide an equitable education for all students.

There’s no question this is an emotionally manipulative – and at times overwrought – piece of cinema. But it successfully manipulated the HELL out of me.

Students in Elementary, Middle, and High School ARE BARELY ASSIGNED BOOKS because collected *passages* are easier to break down and respond to on standardized tests.
Teachers have to fight for the room to read and assign books, because our data-driven K-12 system wants them gone from curricula.

I've never encountered more students who say they hate reading. Students who want to be teachers, writers, or both. I wonder if "hate" means "I have trouble reading," but I also talk with so many students who write in a genre but refuse to read in it. They can't see themselves in relation to others.

I’m all for exploring the dynamic range offered by HDR10 and Dolby Vision on an OLED display, but I gotta say it’s a bit much to grade talent faces at ~10-20 nits on *kids tv series*.

I can't think of any point in recent history when someone could reasonably say Haitians *wouldn't* meet requirements for TPS--the country has never really been allowed to develop a functioning government, and the last time it had something resembling one, the US helped overthrow it

Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.
