Oooh, it’s getting to close to ‘The Bells!’ (Hogmanay for the unacquainted). Time to get thinkative/maudlin/contemplative. The joys of being Scottish…

These are some of the things that have landed this weekend. Been a strange week (or year!). Keep fighting the good fight pals

Dear MSPs: Stage 3. Elections Bill. Make it so from 2027 onwards council vacancies are filled by co-option, with by-elections only for those elected as Independents vacating. "One local councillor" is not, never will be, and cannot be made a high-turnout occasion.
You aren't going to believe this: the winner of the Glasgow North East by-election less than two weeks ago has just been disqualified for not quitting their council job in time, so... it's another by-election: www.heraldscotland.com/news/2476366...

Xmas tree up today - and surprisingly more fun to do this year. This will be my fourth Xmas not living full time with my girls. It’s hard creating new rituals and connections. I wanted more for them. Leaning hard into ‘good enough’ 💪

Had a really braw evening with some very old friends last night. As much as I sometimes resist peopling/connection, I do so often feel better for it. Remembering and enacting all my life lessons so far isn’t as easy as the books make it out! 😂🥰

My book provides rich evidence of the heterogeneity of Roma. The lived experiences of queer Roma pose a fundamental challenge to one-dimensional, negative misrepresentations of Roma as homophobic & antithetical to European/Western modernity
