I'm worried that I might not be be in a clear eyed enough emotional state to organize well, but what is the use of being unemployed if I am not able to use the extra time to do stuff that matters.

So saddened by the news that we have lost Alice Wong. It was an honor to know her and learn from her. May the lessons she shared continue to guide us for years to come.

Same is true on the LGBTQ healthcare front. Small Black-led LGBTQ health projects are sacrificing everything BUT THEIR CORE MISSION to fight…and winning. Meanwhile, hospitals chains & universities are folding…and making it harder for those w modest resources to fight the good fight
One reason why elite schools (Columbia, Brown, Cornell) caving to Trump’s illegal impoundment and extortion is so galling — a betrayal, really — is that they would have won had they fought. By giving up, they guaranteed every other school will have to fight harder.

Struck this morning by how the win wasn’t from the UC system itself pushing back—it was its worker power through *unions* and aligned groups like @aaup.org defending UC interests, even though admin itself wasn’t.
There’s some kind of lesson here

it's the faculty, students, grad students and alumni that keep expensive universities from consolidating into the fascist fancy boy training camps that trustees and lots of admin badly want them to be. now one side is exploiting the external threat to get things they've always wanted

The “outside agitator” trope has always bugged me because it insinuates nobody can show up in solidarity if they live outside the imaginary city borders of a city. People can often neither pick the venue nor the issues, but they can pick whether to show up or not.
broadview mayor katrina thompson blames today’s brutality on “out-of-town protesters” who’ve “chosen their fists” over their voices.

does this look like cops “protecting [protesters’] free speech”?

This is the end of science in the US it is a MASSIVE crackdown an literally everyone this racist bullshit would stop basically all science in its tracks and allow the administration to deny funding to basically whoever they wanted to

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

In Indiana, a vaunted Jewish studies program is upended by red-state politics over Israel and speech - Jewish Telegraphic Agency
A leadership shakeup, a defunded graduate student and political pressure from above have turned a storied program into a flashpoint for Trump-era campus politics.
