"To a degree unimaginable to modern humans, public spaces in the 2020s were dominated by the constant clattering of enormous metal water bottles being noisily unscrewed, set down on hard surfaces, and, somehow even more frequently, accidentally knocked over"—social historians of the future, probably

I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl.

Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

This profoundly repellent man, who should be in a secure psychiatric facility, has made very plain his desire to kill as many of us as possible, and we are being repeatedly asked to read terrible prose about thirsting for him. NO! GET AWAY!
Did Olivia Nuzzi write this under a pen name?

When I think of AI I think of Prince being asked about holograms of dead celebrities:

“That's the most demonic thing imaginable.… If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing... it really is demonic. And I am not a demon."

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

Angus King accidentally said what we all feared when this started, that there was no way to get the ACA extension because Republicans are more dedicated to being evil than centrist Democrats to fighting for us and Republicans knew it.

Said the person who doesn’t depend on food stamps.
How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

So cool! Prince *loved* libraries. For example, this is one donation he made from his charity a few days after 9/11 to save the Louisville Free Public Library, the first library in the community to serve African Americans.

“Our students are about to turn subcognitive.”
I love to see stuff like this because it helps explain to people trapped in tech-sponsored information bubbles the actually obvious fact that universities teach people to know & think things, and AI is a way to produce the effect of knowing & thinking things w/o actually knowing & thinking them.

People died for a 40 hour work week.
The grind culture that birthed many Big Tech companies from Google to Amazon is back.

As the AI race heats up, startups are promoting hardcore cultures like “996,” or working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week.
Why these companies insist on a 72-hour work week
Start-ups are promoting hardcore cultures such as “996,” meaning working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week, as they race to compete in AI.

if you've never seen a guy try to sound tough while whining about getting his ass kicked by 90 year olds, check this out
Stephen Miller: "All these demonstrators that you've seen out here in recent days, all these elderly white hippies, they're not part of the city and never have been ... we're gonna ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap because they're all over 90 years old."
