I was once described as having a 'narrator character vibe', still trying to establish if that's a complement. Civil Servant. Edinburgh

I think the designers of men's pyjamas would do well to introduce a 'too much like concentration camp uniform' principle.

- Get Jonathan Meades back and let him do what he wants

- stop the infuriating 2.5 minutes intro to every documentary where they do the naff strings and basically explain the entire programme

- have experts and journalists presenting things, not celebrities

- stick the vast archive online
When I'm in charge of the BBC:

Day 1, I cancel Strictly. (If the celebs want to dance, they can take lessons on their own time.)

Day 2: BYE BYE Masterchef.

Imagine, all that money freed up! All that schedule!

You?

Every detail and nuance of colour in Gustav Wintzel's picture 'The Chess Players,' (1886) adds to a sense of obsessive purpose. Nothing is accidental in this work. Wintzel (facing us) wants us to see his world, his wide interests: it's his intellect made visible.

Went to a Sam Smiths pub that has a no phones policy the other evening, I have no problem with that but plastering every surface with hectoring signs saying 'Don't use your phone, we are a Digital Detox pub' is far more irritating than people on their phones. You're a pub, don't nag me.

I feel like a lot of Post-cold war British spy fiction is just saying 'We aren't a superpower anymore, we just do what America tells us and oo isn't the world very morally ambiguous now' over and over again.
