I've said it before, but it bears repeating:

BlueSky isn't an echo chamber, it's a reassertion of the Overton Window, where:

• Nazis are always vile
• White supremacy is always wrong
• Women are never subhuman

I assure you, it is quite easy to find conservative-leaning lawyers who aren't absolute freaks with deeply-held views so creepy most people don't even know such views exist. But this is who they nominate instead.
Here's Trump judicial nominee Justin Olson today, admitting than in 2015, he gave a sermon in which he said that “marriage was not intended for all people,” including “our handicapped friends or our persons with physical disabilities that might prevent the robust marriage that we’re called to.”

I just learned an important life lesson:

Avoid pissing off your photographer.
For comparison, this is Christopher Anderson's photography when he's NOT trolling for everything he's worth. Every choice made in the photos of this administration is a choice. It's fucking art, is what it is.

Nothing more than perceived wealth that doesn’t exist for the purposes of taxes, but magically does for the purposes of leverage. Meanwhile, the rest of us pay real taxes on low wages and can’t leverage shit. The game is rigged. Tax the rich.

Making the most depressing point I can make yet again: the US media is going to treat Donald Trump with far less vitriol in response to him starting a random war in Venezuela vs the sheer level of vitriol that they hurled at Joe Biden for ENDING the War in Afghanistan.
Every major news organization should be writing about how insane this is and how, if he takes this country to war (tomorrow?), it is the act of a madman.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

Nanny State nonsense.

Reminds one of Tipper Gore's antics in the 1980s and 90s regarding music with "offensive" lyrics.

...or Mikey Bloomberg trying to ban large sodas.

Stuff like this is why you can never fully trust any political party – they ALL go in this direction without strict oversight.

Maybe this explains why Apple is hesitant to add age verification at the OS level if it opens the door to requests like these.

A whole lot of data-driven popularism pundits lost interest in the data when polls consistently showed a majority thought Trump's immigration and economic policies sucked, so now they're stuck with "data-driven popularism is when politicians say stuff I agree with."
Nate Silver is more obvious than most, but all the guys who once styled themselves as "wonks" and "data driven journalists" [the Vox promise] operate on pure vibes now

Take away all hope of meaningful employment, and people get angry at those responsible.

Who would have guessed?
"For the first time, a majority of Americans believe billionaires are a threat to democracy. A remarkable 71 percent believe there should be a wealth tax. A majority believe there should be a cap on how much wealth a person can accumulate."

Great story about Rob Reiner:
I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

You can measure the quality of news outlets' political coverage by how often they write headlines starting with the words "Trump says" that don't show any skepticism about what Trump is saying even though he's the most prominent American liar of modern times.

Notice the pattern: help a narrow group loudly, hurt everyone else quietly. Tariffs help a few steel workers but raise prices for every firm using steel. Tax cuts favor the rich while squeezing social programs. Politically noisy wins, economically costly losses.

Because Ellison doesn’t realize that’s how it’s supposed to work.

“Make do with less”
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."
