After all the bs about "human shields" and "collateral damage" we have events that resist all spin and obfuscation. And yet Israel's defenders carry on with the same old tired formulas.

This. Just this.

How is this not on every front page? How are the Israeli's still getting away with a deliberate campaign of enthic cleansing?

NEW 🧵

The number of people travelling from Europe to the US in recent weeks has plummeted by as much as 35%, as travellers have cancelled plans in response to Trump’s policies and rhetoric, and horror stories from the border.

The Welsh told the Saxons this hill was called "pen" (meaning "hill"). The Saxons added their word for hill, "tor," and called it Torpen (hill hill).

Later the Norse added their world for hill. So it became Torpen Haugr (Hill Hill Hill).

Now the English call it Torpenhow Hill (Hill Hill Hill Hill)

Always surprised by how NHS funding arguments (as opposed to triple-locked) aren't framed in terms of intergenerational transfers.

Tomorrow's Independent front page revealing Brexit's catastrophic cost - five years after the UK left the EU.

- New bureaucracy
- Weaker UK exports
- Labour shortages in key sectors
- Less cash for public services
- Huge divorce bill
- 15% long term hit to UK trade

This is the price of populism.

As someone who works in the sector, this is an excellent and long overdue policy which will raise billions in the coming years.

If only Labour had been similarly ambitious on income tax, fuel duty, capital gains and air passenger duty.
The intuitive reading of private schools "defy Treasury over fees" would be some kind of protest over paying the VAT. The report estimates fees are up 14% on average rather than 10% to account for 20% VAT. So the Treasury would get 20% of a slightly higher amount, after said defiance of the Treasury

A lot of rich parents are very upset at the government for charging VAT on private school fees. Maybe they should instead ask why private schools have put up fees so far above inflation over the past 15 years. www.ft.com/content/852b...
