it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet

@justinmasonfwfb.bsky.social Hey Justin! I'm a bit of a completionist, is there anyway to get the first 300 episodes of the FWFB podcast anywhere?

John Atkinson Grimshaw was born in Leeds OTD, 6 September in 1836. The Victorian painter is celebrated for his luminous nocturnal scenes of city streets and docks. Self-taught and once employed by the railway, he turned to painting full-time in the 1870s. Influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites and

In the South China Sea a British convoy worth almost £1bn today is spotted by the French.

It should be a massacre.

Instead, Commodore Nathanial Dance is about to defeat a French battle squadron using some paint and the most overplayed hand in #navalHistory. /1 🧵

Both Ludonarrative Dissidents and the Gauntlet Podcast have just run episodes on Dogs in the Vineyard.

I've listened to them both. They're interesting and good! Check them out for their takes, 20 years later, on the game...

If you’re an indie with no reputation, a trailer (that’s not in a live event) that starts with logos or a slow intro with no gameplay is like being a first time comic at an open mic and opening with your life story rather than opening with a joke.
It’s because the trailer doesn’t show me what the gameplay is or why I should want to know more, and you don’t have the pedigree to do a vibes teaser.

I should find a nice way to say that. It’s often one reason that comes to mind when someone wonders why their good game isn’t getting traction.

CMYK has a cool new line of card games coming out. All the games are fantastic, but in particular, the tricktaking game called Fives (originally released as Green Fivura) is one of my favorite new games of the last few years.
The gang at CMYK, publishers of hit games like Wavelength and Daybreak from @mattleacock.bsky.social, are publishing a fascinating line of card games. A conversation with the creators of that line, and a brief preview of its first four games today on @polygon.com.
Daybreak publisher CMYK doubles down on card games with Magenta
Traditional card games deserve a renaissance of their own

Some pixel art from last year.

Was focusing hard on studying and nailing down some key concepts, so I didn't create a whole lot of actual artworks in the end, but, I think this year you'll start seeing the "fruits" of 2024.

I need you to look at these screens and realize there are ONLY 32 COLORS. This art is a master class.
Defender of the Crown ⚔️ First released in 1986, this was Cinemaware's debut game, one of medieval strategy and mini games. A technical showpiece for the Commodore Amiga featuring Jim Sach's artistic talents.

This truly was a showstopper for the young computer released only the year before.

Sometimes, you don't need to tell a character's back story in lengthy flashbacks. Sometimes, you just need to give them ONE moment so badass, the viewer will instantly know everything they need to know about them.

As an Angel you aren't well equipped to solve your own scarcity problems, especially if you're playing the barter rules strictly.

You also have a prevention vs cure problem that you're REALLY not set up to deal with. You can mop up; other playbooks are far better able to solve problems at the root.

ok here's an idea:
-post-apocalypse dungeon crawler
-starting gear is stone age
-crawl to find better gear
-when found, have to decide between continuing crawl (limited tech but character advancement possible) or fast forwarding a generation (new characters, better gear, world state progression)
one of my thursday ttrpg crew wants to gm (for the first time!) at some point and tonight he half-jokingly said available gear would be locked behind a tech tree based on what we brought back from the dungeon and i am now obsessed with this idea
