This was very much the case in the 1970s. Many of the New Town and local authority property developments were financed by the then large nationalised industry occupational funds with some encouragement from the Wilson/Callaghan governments

Charlotte Nichols MP (Labour, Warrington North) says AI-generated sexual harassment must be the final straw for the UK government using X

A growing number of Labour MPs thought this needed a proper review last year: next week may see this cut through

Misogyny is an official priority of this gvt
There is, to my mind, no justification for the continued use by the UK Government of X as a platform for official comms. There hasn't been for some time, in fact, but if the latest developments around AI-generated image abuse and CSAM don't change the policy I really don't know what will.
NEW: People are using Elon Musk's chatbot, Grok, to alter images to depict real women being sexually abused, humiliated, hurt, and even killed.

If the British government, and indeed other governments, can’t muster a fast and strong response to Twitter adding a facility enabling users to create and share AI child sexual abuse material then not sure what Musk could ever do that would actually provoke a response.

The bit that gets missed in the scandal around Farage's schooldays is that his school made him a prefect - despite warnings from staff about his conduct.

It's a recurring theme for Trump, Johnson, Farage & co. We can't be surprised at the way they behave, when their behavior is constantly rewarded.

I don't normally (er) 'do God' on here, but the far right talking Christianity? Disgusting. Everything they are is antithetical to love: hateful, arrogant, closed, smirking, knowing, unserious, dishonest, despairing, degraded, repugnant moral filth. The light of hope is a good disinfectant.

I wonder what it is about Rachel Reeves that they hate: a woman who went to a comprehensive school, who rose from relatively humble origins to the top and who still speaks with a South London accent. I wonder why they hate her so much. It's a mystery.

Wrote this a couple of weeks ago. Feels more relevant still after today. And it’s a deficit of self awareness which goes far beyond some members of the BBC board.

I fear that if Johnson were asked this today, there would be lot of umming & erring, some guff about "the custard of conciliation" & "the tiramisu of time", but he would refuse to answer.

That a US President tried to overthrow an election is now unsayable on the British Right & in much of the media
In 2020, Boris Johnson said that Trump "encouraged people to storm the Capitol ... I believe that that was completely wrong. ... I unreservedly condemn encouraging people to behave in the disgraceful way that they did in the Capitol".

Does he still think that?

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

I was thinking exactly this reading Michael Prescott's memo. The notion that BBC coverage must be worded so as not to upset the American right is simply wrong. American viewers know what the first B stands for. No one is forcing them to watch, or pay the licence fee.
One thing not being said - indeed, I think everyone misses this - but the requirement for the BBC to show impartiality and balance relates to the politics of *this* country, there’s no requirement to show some mythical balance globally, only to report the truth without fear or favour.
