I’m a past winner of the Orwell Prize & won partly because I exposed Vote Leave’s unlawful activities.

Michael Gove was its co-convener & refused to answer a single q. He’s now a judge of the prize & our world is truly one that Orwell would recognise

This govt promised to deliver the homes that we need in this country - but instead they're writing a blank cheque for developers to make even more profits building luxury homes only the richest can afford. The only way to solve the housing crisis is to restore our social housing.
Will the government sell us out to big developers?

Or will they restore Britain's social housing so that we all have a place to call home?

I was on BBC Politics North this morning with Heather Mills! That section was about animal welfare but I was also on for other sections including the need for better regulation of crossbows and a debate on the new fisheries agreement with the EU. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

WTF? If this Government can’t even agree to this smallest of initiatives, which has no cost to them & absolutely no down-sides, what hope that it will step up to the bigger nature challenges we face? This is a *popular* policy, for heavens sake. Obstinate tin-eared stupidity doesn’t come close …

Swifts are amazing. A single swift can fly 2 million miles in its lifetime with a top speed of nearly 70 mph 😳 Yet they’re under pressure as never before. Please do as @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social asks - lobby your MP to overturn this Govt’s obdurate refusal to mandate swift bricks in new homes 👇

Now Government’s own impact assessment shows no real evidence to support their argument that nature is a blocker, I look forward to ministers reversing their proposals that will trash nature protections …
UK government admits almost no evidence nature protections block development
Whitehall analysis provides no data or research to support the government argument that environmental legislation holds up building

This "debate" about who should use what toilet doesn’t benefit anyone. It doesn’t fix the underfunding of women's refuges, NHS waiting lists leaving women in terrible pain, mums skipping meals to feed their kids. How about we get on with tackling the real issues affecting women?

Labour’s plan to cut spending by freezing benefits like PIP is more than concerning—it's inhumane.

Instead of abandoning the sick and disabled, we need to tackle the root causes of poor health with affordable food and care. We must tax the wealthy, not punish the vulnerable.

Noise, particularly at night, is a huge issue for residents near airports (and don’t say “don’t live near an airport!” - the noise field has expanded hugely over the last few decades, affecting people over a wide area).
“You might think you adapt to noise. I thought I did when I lived in a rental near an airport. But the biology tells a different story.” Noise is causing heart attacks, type 2 diabetes and studies now even link it to dementia.

It was interesting to visit the enquiry about night flights at the Civic Hall today. Thanks to everyone @galba.uk who has worked so hard to make sure Leeds Bradford Airport follows the rules. The noise from night flights has a huge detrimental impact on people’s physical and mental health.

In 2024, the UK’s billionaires increased their collective wealth by £35 million every day. Corporate profits are soaring. Instead of trying to balance the books on the backs of the poorest both in the UK and abroad by cutting welfare and aid, it's time this government started taxing wealth fairly.

Israel cannot be allowed to block Gaza’s receipt of vital aid whenever it chooses. Collective punishment is being used as a bargaining tactic and starving Palestinians are paying the price.

Government must call out this breach of international law and impose targeted sanctions.
