This is an excellent explanation of why the govt's headlong rush for airport expansions is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Thank you @flightfreeuk.bsky.social

You pay fuel duty. Why don’t billionaires?

This week, we launched WeWingAnyCar.com to help you qualify for the same tax breaks that private jets get.

Because tax loopholes shouldn’t just be for billionaires.

They’re for everyone.

With the upcoming budget in mind, have a look at this…
Did you know you pay more fuel tax on a single car journey than a billionaire does on a private jet flight?

Right now the gov is subsidising tax breaks, when they could be using that tax to generate billions for public services.

Join us in Leeds on Saturday 15 November. As world leaders meet in Brazil, we'll march to call for urgent action to tackle climate change and speed up a fair transition from dirty fossil fuels to the clean energy world of the future. Assemble from midday to 1pm in Merrion Street Gardens, LS2 8NG.

Govt policy is so, so, so wrong. There is no alternative to stopping airport expansions if we are at all serious about limiting climate change. That's why we're taking the govt's reckless and irresponsible Jet Zero Strategy to court www.galba.uk/our-campaign...

The UK’s Climate Change Committee says aviation will be the UK’s highest emitting sector by 2040. All the targets for reducing aviation emissions are for 2050. That allows us to indulge in thinking about possibilities, rather than commercial reality. @theaef.bsky.social

We totally agree with @theaef.bsky.social assessment below. The govt isn't even pretending to take its climate commitments seriously in respect of aviation. They're no better than the last govt. Didn't someone say something about change during the election campaign?

Gatwick expansion is a dreadful decision. Greenpeace UK's policy director Doug Parr says it "completely ignores the solid evidence that increasing air travel won't drive economic growth. The only thing it's set to boost is air pollution, noise and climate emissions". www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

If it takes the demise of Bakewell tarts to get the Telegraph on board, so be it
Everyone's got different reasons for quitting flying.

For some it's knowing the staggering carbon emissions of flying.

For others perhaps, it's saving the Bakewell tart.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what your incentive is. What matters is that we take climate action!

Victory!
Fantastic news and a huge well done to the campaigners at @galba.uk:

Leeds Bradford airport wanted to fly an unlimited number of its most frequently-used planes at night, breaking the existing Night Flight rules. GALBA challenged that and won 👏

Yes! We did it!
✈️🌙 Congrats to @galba.uk for the win against Leeds Bradford Airport’s proposal to allow noisier night flights.

We need to press on for further limits on aviation for healthy communities and a climate-just future.

#RedLinesForAirports #BanNightFlights
Good news from GALBA! We've stopped Leeds Bradford Airport from flying an unlimited number of planes at night. We won the Public Inquiry into their attempt to reinterpret the local night flight rules. It doesn't mean the end of night flights but it will limit them.
