It's too easy to be distracted by the economic story of the day. The more important story is of our system fraying: The rule of law is decaying, Bribery spreading, crony capitalism normalized. It won’t show up in next quarter’s data, but when our kids try to build their lives.

There is no defense for how little they tried to offer Myles. Especially because lesser bigs than him are getting considerable deals as well.

I saw your LGM post this week. You and Heather Cox Richardson write my news summaries every week and I appreciate it.

I think that what’s clear abt Mike Johnson and the House is not about Epstein. Anything passed by the House can be filibustered or vetoed

Thanks to John Roberts & his desire to make America a one party country (when that 1 party is a minority), I get to find out what it’s like to live under Jim Crow.

The very thing the Court broke up in Baker v Carr & Reynolds v Sims, John Roberts’s Orbanist desires will give me.

Because Alex Thompson is a Fox News wannabe
question: why does the media treat democrats as the only ones with any agency? republicans have a trifecta, they can prevent a shutdown whenever they want

more important question: what is wrong with Alex Thompson?

So many of us came so very unwillingly to this place of viewing the Supreme Court as unworthy of being viewed as a judicial body. Unworthy of veneration, unworthy of respect.

So profoundly reluctantly.

But, good lord have they earned it.

In the 2000s and 2010s, Jon Stewart would bring foreign comedians on The Daily Show who weren't allowed to appear on television in their home countries due to dictatorial censorship. We have now almost completely reversed that situation.

When Zach Lowe criticizes an NBA player and then says “I should say I’m a huge fan of him” does anyone buy that he’s a huge fan?

Karl Marx certainly wasn't right about everything. But man did he have some keen insights into people's motivations. Class interests are a hell of a drug.

Klein coup’d a President and Kirk enabled a felon to become president
Klein and Kirk both believed that rubbing elbows with wealthy people to get them to fund your career is the “right way”.

/3 Moreover, Klein’s identification with fellow pundits seems selective. Klein could have identified with, for instance, @mehdirhasan.bsky.social, whom Kirk called to be deported for his views — something that did not disqualify Kirk from “doing politics in the right way,” in Klein’s eyes.

/2 This approach sees speaking and writing and politics as just widget-making, morally neutral, banal. Hey; that guy repairs air conditioners and so do I; we’re much alike.

By contrast Klein doesn’t seem to identify with the people Kirk reviled and despised and degraded.
September 17, 2025 at 4:53 PM
This is a less obvious point made abt today’s exclusive punditry class, ie they’re on the same class of ppl, hanging with the same billionaires and seeing each other as the same.

Marx would have a field day with these people and any revolution lines them up with their billionaire organ grinders
Ezra Klein’s most recent column gives the game away: he talks about how horrified he was by Kirk’s assassination because he identifies with Kirk. Kirk, like Klein, talked for a living. So even if they had different policy positions, to some degree, Klein sees himself in Kirk.

Where Tony East controversially tries to eliminate the greatest moment of the 2025 run by adopting FIBA rules and letting Mitchell Robinson swat Tyrese’s game tying shot out of bounds and thus save the Knicks!

Why Tony?
Today with Dave Searle, yapping about rule changes we'd make in the NBA. We both have ideas, some were better than others. Included: My way of making games shorter + every quarter more exciting. Impacts on Pacers, too.

I thought this would be lame, but it was more than fun, reliving games of the past where Terrence Ross could trip and fall and the ball would go in
