What low pressure, cozy PC games are people into these days? I need something at like an Animal Crossing type level. No timers, no required tasks, mainly vibes. If it's about being a witch in a cottage in the woods so much the better.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:
You Can’t Fight Fascism While Defunding Libraries

One of the biggest impacts I’ve seen from the unproven idea that people are wrongfully using disability accommodations is that people stop trusting people with disabilities and in fact further restrict, remove, and demonize accommodations for people with disabilities in general

What we know, 10:30pm:

—Dems flip mayor's office in Roswell, Georgia.
—GOP defends TN-07. Margin shifts blue by ≈14%.
—Solomon crushes McGreevey to become Jersey City mayor; his progressive slate also dominates city council.
—In Atlanta, establishment ahead in most but not all battles vs. left

There was some progressive energy in Jersey City not just around the mayor's race, but some city council races. And the Working Families Party endorsed a slate of five city council candidates — two of which won in November, and the other 3 (Denise Ridley, Joel Brooks, Jake Ephros) won today.

elections aside, don't miss our important story in Bolts today:
NEW: North Carolina prison officials, this summer, raised the price of items that incarcerated people can buy.

The prices are already way marked-up; & incarcerated people make a tiny fraction of minimum wage if they work.

An incarcerated reporter explains what's happening, & why it matters:

on Tuesday, he's running for a seat on the Atlanta school board, with support from the WFP and DSA.

Very similar to the trans-kids panic, where the prestige media narrative is that it's far too easy but you talk to any trans person, expert or parent and it's obvious that it's way too hard.
Once again, no one making these claims seems to understand the enormous hurdles in the way of getting a kid the help they need - in this case - I dare anyone suggesting this to go through an IEP process.

Emily Jabbour won tonight runoff between two Dems.

TN07 is a story about gerrymandering: the GOP cracked Nashville into 3 districts when it redrew the 2022 map, destroying the Dem seat there.

Fast-forward: a section of Nashville, which just 5 years ago had a Dem representative, is now voting Dem by huge margins but it's been designed to not matter.
