It really sucks that wearables can enormously benefit chronically ill folks when they’re also a gigantic persec risk
I wrote about Oura's security and privacy practices earlier this year for this.weekinsecurity.com, and found:

• Oura rings *don't* end-to-end encrypt users' health data;
• Oura *can* access its users' data;
• Oura told me that the company *has* received U.S. government demands for users' data.

Not taking anything away from Senator Padilla because he was treated atrociously

But I JUST want to remind everyone that the Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, a Black woman, was just indicted for just asking questions at an ICE detention center in her state

Keep that same energy of support for her

We, the people, must hold the president and his appointees accountable for this outrageous abuse against American liberty.

They think we'd lie because they think we think it'll get us stuff and they lie all the time to get stuff 😆

(Not only do we know it won't get us things, we literally have to beg to be treated with basic respect 😏)

The EPA IRIS database specifies the cancer + noncancer risk of > 500 chemicals. It's the rosetta stone to calculating the relationship between exposure and risk. It powered our tox map and formaldehyde map. Killing it would destroy the ability to regulate or even show how harmful toxic chems are.

This is true for science too!
Jay Bhattacharya is telling us exactly what he’s going to do to dismantle American science and academia.

It is VITALLY IMPORTANT that scientists 🧪 learn to recognize that language. @mmasnick.bsky.social is right.
"One of the craziest bits about covering the systematic dismantling of democracy is this: the people doing the dismantling frequently tell you exactly what they’re going to do. They’re almost proud of it. They just wrap it in language that makes it sound like the opposite."
Wrote up something about Techdirt's recent coverage, and why (whether we like it or not) we need to be a "democracy blog" now, rather than just a "tech" blog (not that we've ever been just a tech blog).

This story is *the* story and it impacts everything else.

Why do some children still get sick with a disease after being vaccinated?

Short answer: Vaccines significantly reduce the likelihood of getting sick, even if they don’t prevent 100% of infections. They can also lessen the severity of illness.

The blog post that kicked it off (from a partisan bullshit website) listed a number of papers testing the effects of sex hormones on animals.
