And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

This is some crazy shit.
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"

A full year of electioneering about slurpluses and deffyzits ahead. Worth asking why all the media time is given to that little pink stub on the left.

Further examples of what @garyseconomics.bsky.social (and others I’m sure) talk about - goods and services for the wealthy continue to grow. This isn’t “defying a cost-of-living crisis”, it’s a result of growing wealth inequality. Inequality is what must be addressed.

What cost-of-living crisis? The rise of boutique, luxury gyms
Gyms that focus on service and mental health are a small but growing part of the New Zealand fitness industry.

Through pure people power - with workers, faith, and community uniting - the Govt has decided to keep the Living Wage in its procurement guidelines for contracted cleaners, catering workers, and security guards.

Special mention to the many workers who stood up and organised for this win. #NZpol

At a bagel place. Ordered a regular latte (not for me, note). Was told they only serve large. On further questioning, I discovered I could downsize the latte to a medium. For the same price.

The three richest men in the world are all genuflecting before Trump.

All to curry favor so they can maintain their control over our political and economic systems — and to avoid accountability for their abuses of power.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

David Seymour keeps saying, “The challenge for people who oppose this bill is to explain why they are so opposed to those basic principles of equal rights [the same rights and duties, the right to self-determine].”

Can we crowdsource (bluesource?) a collection of simple explanatory points?

This is a great how-to that makes it easy for any photos you might have taken from yesterday's hīkoi to be captured for the historical record.
Your photos of yesterday's historic hīkoi are important. You can add them to the public record with Wikimedia Commons, Category:Hīkoi to Parliament. I wrote a step-by-step guide (www.rove.wiki/blog/uploadi...) and an accompanying video tutorial (www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwe-...).

Worse stats around food poverty, time to get GP appointments, GP visits, mental health, sleep deprivation, and obesity in deprived areas year-on-year.
Worsening poverty is writ large in this year's Health survey. The problem is the Govt's focus on cutting both public debt & size of Govt to <30% GDP is both deepening poverty & failing to achieve the GDP growth the Govt deems the solution to all NZ's problems. thekaka.substack.com/p/27-of-kids...
27% of kids going hungry, up from 21% in a year
Survey of 9,719 adults & 3,062 children finds food poverty surged over the last year, mental health problems doubled, waiting times for doctors jumped & nearly half of people in poor areas now obese
