#Undertale, Narrative Desire, and Freud's Masterplot

The one #VideoEssay I have made (so far), back when I had the time for that.

It's still pretty good, put a lot of work into it, and I think you should watch it, if you like Undertale and academic rambling.

There's gonna be a whole lot of people who for one reason or another will REALLY want to play GTA6 once it's drops.

Completely seperate thought: I feel like there will likely be easily accessible ways to pirate one of the biggest releases of the decade. Dunno why that thought came to me.
Rockstar now claims it was, in fact, the leaking of “specific game features from upcoming and unannounced titles” that led to the firings.

We’re going to have to see the company prove this in an employment tribunal & more than that, it’ll need to prove it for all 31 fired employees in the UK too.

Rockstar has claimed the employees it recently fired were dismissed because they leaked game features for upcoming and unannounced titles in Discord, not because they were trying to unionize. https://bit.ly/48A0tTf

Three things that I firmly believe:

1. Making games about anything that isn't a white/anglocentric narrative (or really any minority narrative at all) means you're doing ten times the lifting in establishing context and meaning for the juries and audiences.
On Games for Impact:

“It's good that it's there, but it's also, in a way, kind of insulting. Because giving a special award for a game for actually meaning something or having some human content... we should be aspiring for that in every category."

What would be your preferred way of me buying your game?

@steampowered.com if you condone these kinds of reviews on your platform I'll make an effort to avoid steam for future purchases.

They are even labelled as "funny" and get fake point awards, that's so weird and plain hateful.
Since I posted this yesterday:
- The writer of the "I hate muslims" review has doubled down, and added that they also hate transgender people
- Valve removed my flag from the review, with nothing done about it. The review remains up and on our Steam page

I say again: Is this what Steam is now?

The almost obvious continuation of this paradigm is of course "mass firing people to create the impression of profit to pretend said non-existant need had actually been there and has successfully been met"
5 years of marketing have taught me that there's been a shift from "creating a need that wasn't there before" to "pretending there's a need that's naturally always been there".
all the fake AI trash really contradicts one of the main ways we're told capitalism operates, with capitalists identifying wants/needs & developing products & services to meet those. turns out you can skip that step & just pretend. nigh everyone hates AI and it makes no money but it's everywhere

Me, first half of 2025:

Phew, lots of new games coming out this year. Won't get to many new releases, wonder if a AAA will actually be my GOTY?

Me, end of 2025:
Dang, Bananza was so good, but not sure if it'll make my top 10

Just watching my feed these past few days, 'tis the season of "Leftist internet personalities begrudgingly liking Tarantino films"

I'm waiting for somebody to come up with the "Tarantino-Whedon-Gradient"
The thing is Tarantino is Tarantino and that's never a good thing, but I have to say I absolutely adore his "marginalized people enacting righteous, stupidly gory violence against their oppressors" canon. Inglourious Basterds especially, but truly all of them unfortunately
Anyway this was my first time watching Kill Bill at all and I hate how much I like Tarantino’s movies because that fucking ruled

My dad sent me a genuinely heart warming and sweet message where he said he's "a little proud" of me for some recent life decisions.

This is pretty uncharacteristically emotional of him and I gotta say the I, too, am.... a little proud. =)

Israel hunted a 70 year old lady down with a gun drone and then hoovered above to make sure she bled out next to her dying son. They both join almost 1,000 Palestinians Israel has massacred or maimed in its genocide during the "ceasefire".

Assuming there isn’t more to this than we know, it is indeed very embarrassing to see an industry obsessed with being taken seriously as an art form self censor in this way.

You need the grit if you want the pearl, dweebs. No amount of trotting out auteur film directors on stage offsets that need
Despite the controversy, Horses is only shocking if you're unfamiliar with the history movies, theater, literature, or basically any art form that does not have stats. aftermath.site/horses-indie-g...
Horses Is Tame
Horses, the indie game that is too scandalous for either Valve or Epic, is only beyond the pale if you're not familiar with any other art form.

It's so weird, too.

Things on the safe side of the bar for the folks who want Horses banned:

Murder, war crimes, abuse, gambling, exploitation

Things that go too far:

Stuff that makes them feel icky somehow
the HORSES affair is a startlingly low bar to cross to see if people actually care about protecting games from censorship of upsetting themes because it's far tamer and has way more moral clarity than a lot of stuff that doesn't get banned. but it's also very clarifying to see who can't cross it

Just bought Horses by @santaragione.com (alongside two classics) on GOG. Thank you @steampowered.com for putting this interesting game on my radar by arguably being rather awful about art and censorship on your platform.

COVID isn’t acting like the viruses most of us grew up with, and treating it like “just a cold” is putting people at real risk. David Brasure breaks down why SARS-CoV-2 is fundamentally different, how it causes long-term damage, and what we can do to protect ourselves.

Kid's comment: why did you do something so stupid?

Because adults are stupid a lot of the time, kid, so please, learn my lesson lol.
Dear parents. If your kid has a REALLY cool little scooter, you should do the responsible thing and NOT cruise it down a hill of uncertain boardwalk quality, unless you want to act as a bad example for your kid to learn from.

I just so happened to have tested that out for you.

The reason why this hurts so much is because every dubbing studio in the Los Angeles area has been hit with at least one wave of layoffs or a significant reduction in the amount of contractors that have been hired.

All that devastation to our economy, for this?
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

Dear lefties/everyone. As much as I hate AI, don't shame people for using it.

It won't change minds. It won't change the world. It'll only alienate people who have any number of valid reasons to be convinced, persuaded, or pushed to use this technology.

Educate, empathize, but don't dunk.
