In the history of North America, there were others who had also seen the dangers of certain types of government and had designed their own checks and balances to guard against tyranny: the Native Americans.

We are conditioned now to think we need to be online looking at every piece of news when it happens, but needing to take breaks and remove yourself is normal. We were not meant to be barraged with so much information on a regular basis. It's a meme, but touching grass is seriously so necessary.🖖
Reminder: ignore the bots. We’ve started following many of you on here and just want to say, if you need a break, take one. The internet will still be here tomorrow. 💚

Maybe reputable news agencies shouldn't report Trump's assertions about international developments as fact until they are independently confirmed by other parties.

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

Courage is not acting without fear. It is to be afraid, and act anyway.

I will be protesting for No Kings Day this Saturday June 14th. Despite the deep fear I feel in my bones, despite the anger I feel at watching my fellow citizens and human beings have their rights stripped away. Show courage.🤟
Lesson 13 of "On Tyranny": Practice corporeal politics.
Find your No Kings protest, June 14th.

Pope Francis nearly single handedly revolutionized the Catholic Church. His generosity & forward-thinking showed the potential that church leaders can provide.

We need more leaders like Pope Francis, be they religious or otherwise. May his soul rest in peace & the church appoint a worthy successor🙏🏽

Scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope have identified two gases in the atmosphere of the exoplanet K2-18 b—dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS)—that are known on Earth to be produced only by biological processes, such as marine algae.

Today, I visited the Windsor Plantation ruins in Claiborne County, Mississippi.

Built by enslaved hands, they are a reminder of the dark past of the United States & a warning not to repeat it.

They are as massive & beautiful as they are tragic. (1/2)

If you want a peek into North American Archeology, here's a map that (roughly) breaks up the regions we work in.

There are definitely tribes that do not agree with these classifications, so keep that in mind. As an archeologist, these are sort of the general regional classifications we use. (1/3)

President Zelenskyy has been one of the greatest leaders of our time, guiding Ukraine through the darkest period of its recent history, rising up to Russia’s unwarranted aggression, being an inspiration to the Ukrainian people and ensuring that Ukraine’s voice is heard on the world stage.

An insightful piece by Timothy Snyder, drawing some uncanny historic similarities between the current US policy under Musk-Trump regarding the Russo-Ukraine war and the foreign policy by the allied countries in 1938 that led to the dawn of World War II. I'd highly recommend giving it a read!
"Appeasement at Munich: World Wars, Past and Possible"
The symmetry between Germany-Czechoslovakia in 1938 and Russia-Ukraine in 2022 is uncanny, and pausing for a moment on the resemblances might help us to take a broader view of today.

I believe that anybody who wants to fight for a better future absolutely needs to read 'On Tyranny' by @timothysnyder.bsky.social.

It is such a quick & digestible $12 read that uses real history to show how we can stand up in this moment.

Resistance requires that people be informed.
