I'm into elephants right now. It is tremendously enjoyable to work the details of skin and wrinkles and color. These took a long time, but I love the time it took.

Interesting. I don't see any LA police being attacked with American flags.

Is this just kind of like repeat it until you believe it yourself? Your boss pardoned everyone who assaulted law enforcement on January 6th. Ass!!!

I think you have a remarkable talent.
This week's daily 5 minute drawings were Stenus sp. rove beetles.

This is what I want to see. I want to see an MLK-John Lewis moment, where Governor Newsom is linking arms with the protesters walking down the street in LA, with tens of thousands of protesters following them. Dare the police or NG to confront them.

There could not be a more powerful image.

lmao The Sun has a livestream of the “LA riots” on YouTube and when you click on it it’s a bunch of troops standing around doing nothing

you can literally hear birds singing in the background

what a time to be alive

Lots of talk today about the demise of BlueSky. For whatever it's worth, it's been a boon to indie publishers like us. Twitter and Facebook have pretty much silenced us, so the engagement here has, and continues to be, wonderful.

not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns

los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

In the last 20 or so minutes I’ve seen LAPD officers shove women to the ground without provocation, rip a sign out of a man’s hand and then swing a baton into his leg and raise a less-lethal launcher to aim
directly at a protester (which I’m 99% is a major policy violation.)

Liar, liar, pants on fire. If Trump was made of wood, his nose would be longer than the earth's diameter!
Hello. I live in Los Angeles. The president is lying.

Feeling nostalgic, I created this short video to share some photos I took while living in Spain in the 1970s. I have a longer version on Instagram, but the shorter version for Bluesky is probably better. ☺️ This was a time of great joy for me. I miss having a horse!

Puffins are social, so to attract them to Maine's rocky islands, National Audubon's Seabird Restoration Program put out decoys to attract real birds.

This puffin is trying to fit in with his new friend by standing on one leg.

Seabird peer-pressure can be intense.

I'm genuinely SO excited about the new ocean map that will be at the heart of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich when this hall reopens on June 7th. It's an unusual ocean-focussed map with so much detail, and it's just brilliant. 🌊🌊 Here's a sneak peak.

This handsome Black-headed grosbeak was singing a beautiful tune for over five minutes! An occasional break for a few seconds to catch his breath and repeat.
It was amazing.
I really need to try a tripod sometime 🤷‍♂️

Well, you know who says that-the same people who say it's too expensive to give aid to the poor both here and in other countries; too expensive to build enough affordable housing to alleviate homelessness; too expensive to support Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP. Parsimonious Idiots.
“Fixing climate change is too expensive.”

Um no. What’s really expensive is doing nothing.

Climate disasters cost billions—and those costs are rising fast. Climate solutions save money and lives, as well as building a better world for us all 🌏💚
